Book Review: The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Vikrant Khanna

“I think I wanted to reinforce the thought that Mummy would return and become my guardian angel.”

"If you love someone, set them free, if they come back to you, they are yours" - This is what came to my mind when I read its book cover, but it is not exactly that. The book is about Akshara, a teen who is still not over on her mother's death, a loss that was too much for her to handle.

To her life, enters Harvinder(Harry), a stranger turned friend who seemed to help her out of the pain but is he what he is showing? He shares a story of love and loss to her; a story that made her think through her pain... that sums up the book. But is there something deep to everything? Grab a copy to know more.

Introduction :

Book Name: Girl Who Knew Too Much

Author Name: Vikrant Khanna

Genre: Romance novel

Language: English

The first thing that you’ll find attractive about this book is its cover. It gives you a faint idea about how the novel is going to read like. It is lovely. It will create a curiosity in the minds of the readers and you will find yourself impatient to read this book.

The book begins with a question, the author asks the readers to ponder upon before beginning with the book-
"Are you a believer or a cynic?”

What kept me going is the emotions of the characters, the sorrow, the pain, the helplessness, doubt, confusion ... you can feel it as your own. The mystery and slight touch of humor make it all the more, interesting. The plot is different and refreshing, it makes you wish for things on behalf of the characters.

About the Author:

Vikrant Khanna is a captain in the Merchant Navy. He is the bestselling author of Secretly Yours When Life Tricked Me and Love Lasts Forever. Apart from writing, he is fond of composing songs and playing the guitar. He lives in New Delhi.

About the book:

Blurb:

Can true love bring someone back from the dead? Akshara is left devastated by her mother’s death and spends most of her time in solitude at the local park. One day, as she is sobbing uncontrollably, a young man named Harry approaches her.

They become friends and Harry recounts to her a story about the miraculous reunion of a young woman and her dead boyfriend to help ease some of her pain. The story makes Akshara hopeful that she can perhaps see her dead mother again. But she soon realizes that Harry isn’t what he seems to be.

Even the characters in his story seem dubious, almost unreal. So what is he hiding? And why? Is there any truth to his story at all? In this darkly suspenseful romance mystery, Akshara is left facing a truth that will make her doubt not just Harry but herself as well . . .

The story starts with a young girl named Akshara, who was left in despair when she lost her mother as a teenager. She always comes to the garden and sits on a bench facing downward to the ground. She missed her mother so much that she can’t forget all the moments she shared with her mother.

After her mom passed away nobody is there to care for her, even her father most of the time out of the home. Due to lack of love and care each passing day she moves towards depression. The only person who cared for her is Shilpi Aunty, her maid. But Shilpi aunty never fills the void created by her mother. One day when she is sitting on the bench and weeping, Harry sees her and wants to know the reason behind her sadness.

Harry tried to grab her attention and when he got that want to know the reason behind her sadness. Now he wants to bring back that girl to a normal state so he narrates a true story about his life incident. Harry makes her realize that genuine and pure love can bring alive the dead people. In the initial stage Akshara didn’t find the story interesting but when the twist and turns come she was curious to know about the conclusion that does true love brings back the dead one.

Vikrant Khanna has done proper justice to his characters. May it be Akshara going down to the garden or Harry reciting the story of Sahiba. The narration is however appreciable but has lost track of the storyline sometimes hence creating boredom in the first half. Though, it will grip you firmly as it proceeds. The climax and the conclusion make it worth reading.

The title is apt but I found it a bit too long for a book. The book cover, on the other hand, is good enough for a story like this.

My Review:

The use of language and story plotting is far better. Few lines are there which touch me, like “Thousands of good deeds makes a miracle”. Once again someone convinces me that when you are in love you can do anything. At the initial stage maybe you found a little bit of a normal story but keep patience and go through the book, the more you move into the character the more it holds you. This is the potential of an author for how he holds the reader to complete the book.

It is perfectly entertaining and a book you just can’t put down unless you read the last line!
