About the book:
I read this book in paperback version quite a long time back and as I was really impressed by the plot, I loved reading it then and thought of reviewing it. So, here are my thoughts on the book.
Life Is What You Make It is based on a 90s Indian love story. It has been described by the readers as a book that portrays how love, hope, and determination can together win over even destiny. It is a tale of a few significant years of the protagonist’s life.
The novel revolves around a woman named Ankita in her 20s, who has a past haunting her like a nightmare. As she grows up from adolescence to a woman in her mid-20s, she wades through different situations, engages in affairs with a couple of guys, and is set back by her parent's refusal to accept her situation. As a result of non-stop ups and downs in her life, Ankita develops the bipolar disorder.
The story revolves around Ankita’s struggles, determination, decisions, and faith in herself. The book beautifully describes how she gets acquainted with her bipolar disorder, how she decides to help her own self and how she battles these situations all by herself. Also, the title of the book in a way describes the central theme of the book .

My View:
The Writer has done a great job with expressing the inner feelings of a girl, be it a modern girl or the one of the decade as described by Preeti Shenoy. She has described each and every node in a girl's teenage, be it emotional state, or a love case, or relationship of parents with children, the relation with friends, a true philosopher, guide, and whatnot. A very beautiful picture of Bipolar disorder is picturized throughout, in its most interesting manner
.
This book is so realistically representing mental health that it's just so damn relatable and I cannot help feeling helpless. The character going through major clinical depression is so real and everything about the representation is so accurate that it made me wonder how the author knows how to write this story so well.
The story towards the beginning is a young adult component with young love and all that. But, the book develops into something much deeper and realistic. The book is about an ambitious, hardworking, and brilliantly talented, and creative girl Ankita Sharma who, with his constant effort has made it into the top MBA college.

Shifting from a small state in Kerala to a big metropolitan city in Mumbai has not affected her in any way, in fact, she was so engrossed in her course that she made it to be at the top position in her academics. But fate has suddenly changed her path. Six months later she has been admitted to a medical hospital NMHI in Bangalore which was something not expected for such a girl either by his family or his friends.
This book will teach both the young and the old about such issues. A must-read. However, before taking up this book, be aware of the possibility of being triggered by the events depicted in the novel.
It comes out to be "A Must Read" definitely from my side. Hats off to the Author, to put a girl's feelings in words and make the reader get truly involved right from page 1 to 209. Not a single page would be of some sort of a skip reading
Few words from the book itself, to describe it even better-
"....The world is indeed a better place when there is love, friendship, acceptance, and hope. Powered by these, you can indeed overcome anything, including destiny...."
What I liked in the story is the simple language and narration. It’s a quick read if you have some time on your hands. It’s inspiring to the extent that it tells you problems are temporary and you can get past them if you believe. Yes, the story does have elements of a love story, but it isn’t completely one.
This is a must-read book. Though Ankita Sharma has dropped out of her course that didn't stop her from chasing her dreams. Moreover, she has taken her favorite passion that is creative writing and she has overwhelmed all the strives.
The author has done a fantastic job that we will never close this book since it is so interesting to know the further events. The cover is beautiful. The language is simple.
I give this book a rating of 4.8/5
