“When you are born the World rejoices while you cry. Live life in such a way that when you DIE, the World should cry and you rejoin” - Sanskrit saying

Introduction :

Book Name: Who Will Cry When You Die?

Author Name: Robin Sharma

Genre: Self–help book

Language: English

Life keeps moving at a faster pace every day. We’re always connected through our devices. There are constantly new ideas and emails and all sorts of things for us to follow and learn from. Somewhere in the mix of all this, however, we’ve begun to struggle with finding meaning in life. It’s great to improve ourselves, but we have to remember that we’re not doing this just for our benefit.

If you wonder at its title and want to give it a read, you will be disappointed, because it is a SELF Development book and nothing will be relevant to what you are searching in the book regarding the title.

About the Author:

Robin Sharma is a Canadian writer, best known for his The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari book series. Robin Sharma is considered to be one of the top 5 leadership experts in the world. His work is embraced by rock stars, royalty, billionaires, and many celebrity CEOs. He is one of the world’s premier speakers on leadership and personal mastery.

Sharma worked as a litigation lawyer until age 25, when he self-published MegaLiving (1994), a book on stress management and spirituality. He initially also self-published The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, which was then picked up for wider distribution by HarperCollins. He has published 12 other books.

About the Book:

I loved the title of the book. In a moment you all want to read this book. Who Will Cry When you Die? A question that everyone must ask themselves when they are alone and contemplating life and its oddities. Robin Sharma had clearly articulated in this book, the 101 ‘ life Principles’. Is it just 101 or much more? To answer this there are more to what Robin Sharma had tried to give to his reader.

The entire book is just about those small changes that we can apply to our lives to bring that happiness that we always longed to bring or see. Collection of these thought what makes this book unique and inspired. This book is just about realizing what makes us happier and less resentful.

The author had covered every little detail ranging from waking up early in the morning, to have a nice family outing, to have a collection of our favorite books, to some of the serious topics like why doing meditation is a good way of silencing our chattering minds, etc, etc….

A total of around 220 pages with 101 short chapters, each within 2-3 pages. If you have previously read-only novels and literature, then only after crossing half the book, you will realize that this book or thing that disturbs our book experience is that the author will be giving certain examples of his own, examples that seem like not generalized to connect with a wider audience and not having a common perspective.

For example, the author himself repeatedly mentions certain authors, quotes, sayings, mentioning certain great and famous people[all his favorites] over time, which disturbs us from getting connected with the book.

A reader reads a book for the only reason-a pleasure full book reading experience, then only for knowledge and other stuff. Only after crossing some 100 pages, you will start getting that experience.

The important chapter is the 99th chapter- “Love Your Work”. The reason why this chapter has been kept last is that it takes the whole previous chapters to change our minds to realize what is taught in the 99th chapter. It tells us to love whatever we do. Even if it is your work assigned to you on behalf of others, you have to do it with passion.

My views:

Here are just 3 of the many great life lessons I’ve learned from this book:

1. Being honest and knowing how to put failure into perspective will help you be happier.

2. Imitating children and taking care of your body are two great ways to rediscover the joy in life.

3. Stop complaining by adopting a more proactive mindset and looking more at what you can contribute than what’s wrong.

We all knew that these things are more important in our lives, but, we haven’t given much thought to it. From this book what you learn is the art of living and the art of dying as well. We are living our lives trying to achieve something we don’t like to show off to some people whom we like. If those people like you really, they allow you to get something that makes you live as yourself.

I recommend this book to be read by everyone. Though it may not bring overnight changes to your life, surely, it evokes some questions that every reader can question themselves.

My rating for the book 5/5
