Always keep in mind that social media isn’t the real life. Whatever you see on the gram is the filtered part, what influencers chose to show you.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I am a genomic medicine researcher, a bioinformatician, an entrepreneur, a wife and a mother. I hail from Kerela, a beautiful state in India. Me and my family always loved travelling and learning nee culture, so we kept shifting from one place to another.
We sort of loved experimenting living in different countries. To be honest, it’s really boring to be settled in one place.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
We started it out of nowhere. It was a private account which turned to a public account. Our page is about everything that we truly believe in and it complete reflects what we stand for in our life. We create contents on parenthood, lifestyle, fashion and travel.
Me and my husband Ajmal loved documenting our sweet days from a very long time and social media gave us an opportunity to start vlogging and we complete love it. The energy and motivation to keep going is definitely the love from our virtual family.
3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
Both the terms are twisted and is confused by many at the moment. In my opinion, a blogger is someone who runs a blog or a write up page whereas an influencer can be someone who has the power to influence you into doing something, could be a fashion influencer, food influencer, travel influencer or even sometimes, we just get influenced by seeing someone doing something in a different way and can end up doing it in that particular way.
4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
Ofcourse yes, current scenario really proves being an influencer is a booming career. Everything is online now and digital marketing/ partnerships with brands / ad revenue are some of the few categories through which an influencer can earn money.
5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?
Every coin has two sides and it applies to social media as well. There is good and bad and many contents out there on social media can be detrimental for many of us. Social media has the power to influence our behaviour and mental health; hence its very important that we think clearly before following someone’s content. Ultimately, it’s solely up to us to decide what to be consumed from social media.
Always keep in mind that social media isn’t the real life. Whatever you see on the gram is the filtered part, what influencers chose to show you.
6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
Success mantra in life is to be kind and humble. I truly believe that kind hearts can go long way in life and achieve great things. If nothing, they can definitely achieve people’s heart. I really cannot see people in pain, it breaks my heart and will do anything in my power to send out a helping hand and I truly believe, our world will be a much much better place, if we tried looking after one another with kindness.
7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?
Nothing happens overnight. When I started this page 3 years ago, there were no such terms like influencer. Instagram was merely a page to post your pictures and videos. Just a happy place. With great following count comes with a great responsibility. You can only be successful in social media as an influencer is to give your audience a good laugh, a good message or simply what they want.
8. Which is your favorite book and why?
Umm, to be honest, I have complete forgot when was the last time I read a good book after graduation. A lot of books have influenced me in a good way and it’s so hard to pick one.
