Amanda Lacount - I Believe That “Anything Is Possible to a Willing Mind” (Dancer & Choreographer from USA)

Amanda LaCount

I think it is very difficult to just train yourself. There are always some exceptions but I have been training in technical styles as well as a hip hop for over 17 years.  I also continue to train 6-7 times per week or more depending on my work and rehearsal schedule.  I think it is important to always work on your craft.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

Amanda LaCount is a well-known hip-hop dancer, actress, choreographer, singer, model, and influencer. She has been dancing since she was 2 years old. In 2015 she moved from CO to LA to follow her dream of becoming a professional dancer and actress.

Some of her most notable performances include dancing with Meghan Trainor on RDMA, dancing on The Ellen Show with Keala Settle from "The Greatest Showman", dancing with Disney's "Descendants 2" Cast on DWTS, dancing on 2 Episodes of The Voice, dancing in Katy Perry's "Swish Swish" music video feat.

Nicki Minaj, performing at Coachella with Lizzo, performing in Rihanna's Savage X Fenty Show at NYFW, performing as Alana (one of Ariel's sisters) in ABC's "The Little Mermaid Live", dancing in Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love" music video, dancing on America's Got Talent Season 15, and most recently dancing in Netflix's "The Prom" movie with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Kerry Washington.

Amanda has her own movement #breakingthestereotypeTM which promotes body positivity and the belief that any "body" can be a dancer. Amanda's passion is dance, but her goal is to inspire others to follow their dream.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue dancing and how did you start?

I have 2 older sisters that danced. When my mom would take me to the studio with them I would stand outside the window and watch. I would jump around trying to dance to the music. She enrolled me in dance when I was 2 years old.  I have been dancing ever since.

3. Who is your favourite dancer and why?

I really enjoy working with Parris Goebel. She doesn’t care what other people say or think and she is an amazing choreographer. I was privileged to work with her at Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show at NYFW.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a dancer?

Wow!  You can do so many things. I’ve danced on stage with Lizzo at Coachella and Meghan Trainor at RDMA’s. I’ve been in tons of music videos such as Lady Gaga’s “Stupid Love” and Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish.” I’ve danced in movies such as ABC’s “Little Mermaid Live” and Netflix’s “The Prom.” I’ve danced on TV shows such as Roar, School of Rock, DWTS, Ellen, The Voice, etc.

I’ve performed live at events such as Oprah’s Vision Tour and BET Awards. I’ve also danced in numerous commercials such as Dove, American Eagle, and Forever 21. The possibilities are endless. Someday soon I hope to go on an international tour with a major artist. I’ve also been auditioning for Broadway shows which is a dream of mine.

5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

I think it is very difficult to just train yourself. There are always some exceptions but I have been training in technical styles as well as a hip hop for over 17 years.  I also continue to train 6-7 times per week or more depending on my work and rehearsal schedule. I think it is important to always work on your craft.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?

I believe that “Anything is possible to a willing mind.”  If there is something you really enjoy then go for it and don’t let anyone stop you. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but there is nothing else I’d rather be doing.

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

I like the book and movie “The Theory of Everything.”  It is very inspirational to me.
