Arjun Tangri - Do Not Entirely Focus On the Goal, Trust, and Enjoy the Process (Video Creator From India)

Arjun Tangri

The best thing about being a video creator is that I can uplift the mood of people by my content that contributes to their life, be it only a 15sec video, but sometimes it makes them laugh, at times they relate to it and the best part is I get to socialize and interact with new people.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

I finished my schooling at Delhi Public School Gurgaon in 2019. I was a science student as my ultimate goal was and currently also is, to become a commercial pilot. After the 12th, I had to wait for the IndiGo airlines selection process because I wasn’t 18 yet, so I did a photography course as I was always interested in stuff related to the camera.

I was an extremely camera-shy person till my 12th class and also for some time after that. I always enjoyed being behind the camera and shooting rather than being in front of it.

Although, I had a plan to open a YouTube channel so I couldn’t be shying away from the camera, hence, I started through Instagram first, as soon as I leave for my training outside India, I’ll start a YouTube channel too in the near future!

Starting on Instagram has its own challenges, some of which I have overcome, some which I’m facing, and some that are yet to come. Though I’m ready for anything coming my way.

2. When did you first decide you wanted to be a video creator and how did you start?

I was 17 when I first thought that I’ll start my YouTube channel, specifically a vlogging channel, once I finish school and move out of India for my pilot training. As life went on and the pandemic happened, all my plans got delayed due to travel restrictions and border closures.

Instagram recently had introduced the reels feature and I, being a really camera-shy person all my life till then, thought that I could start practicing through this feature so that I’m ready in front of the camera once I start YouTube.

I started to post these short videos and to my surprise, people started liking them a lot and started appreciating me. A person who hardly got 100 likes on Instagram started getting 300 likes after posting 2 or 3 reels.

People started finding my reels funny and my Instagram engagement started boosting up. I always loved to make people laugh and this was a way through which I could do that! Hence, I continued and remained consistent!

3. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

At times, finding inspiration is easy and I get ideas from daily life experiences as I try to create relatable content through which people around my age can relate their personal life experiences while watching my content.

Although there are times when it seems very difficult to get inspiration and I keep brainstorming ideas for days, I personally call them “social blocks”. For the time being, while I am not posting reels, I make sure I at least post stories or static-post carousels on Instagram.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way, and how did you respond to them?

There are a lot of challenges that I went through, in fact, even undergoing, such as people depreciating you, throwing hate at you. Even some relatives try to embarrass you for the videos you make, but fortunately, I am blessed with great relatives and people around me.

Another challenge I believe every creator goes through is the sudden urge to stop creating and delete everything, there can be multiple challenges faced that contribute to this such as:

- The engagement did not meet your expectation levels.

- You received hateful comments or messages, which in my case, does not bother me at all.

- Slow-paced growth actually is growth, but it’s too slow to be noticed by you.

- Random shadow bans by a social media platform, which aren’t deliberately imposed at all, they’re just random. This means that your reach becomes around half the number of your followers.

5. What do you enjoy most about being a video creator?

The best thing about being a video creator is that I can uplift the mood of people by my content that contributes to their life, be it only a 15sec video, but sometimes it makes them laugh, at times they relate to it and the best part is I get to socialize and interact with new people.

6. Outside of video creating, do you have any other major interests or passions?

Yes, there are a lot of things that I’m passionate about,

- First being my career, I’m becoming a pilot and currently associated with IndiGo airlines as a cadet pilot, basically meaning a student pilot. I decided to become a pilot at a very young age and have worked towards it since then!

- I am also a fitness enthusiast so I love exercising in the gym and tracking my nutrition and eating healthy food.

- Another recently discovered passion is 10m air pistol shooting, so I go to a shooting academy to practice regularly.

- Lastly, I study investments and the stock market frequently and personally have invested money in various forms.

7. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

The ultimate mantra that keeps me going in life is: Do not entirely focus on the goal, trust, and enjoy the process. This was said by MS Dhoni in an interview and I look up to him as a legendary human being. This line said by him touched my heart and since then, it is ingrained in my mind.
