1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I grew up in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is a beautiful city surrounded by waterfalls. My father worked for the government-Forest department and he had a transferable job.
Prioritising children’s study my mom stayed back in Ranchi with us and dad would come to visit us over the weekends. My parents always taught me to learn more and explore more, they always said you get richer by adding qualities to yourself.
My parents' sacrifices did not go in vain as my elder brother did his engineering from IIT and MBA from IIM, I did my engineering from R.V. College of engineering and my younger brother is studying business from mahe Manipal.
I am a product manager at Gametion Technology. I love to play games and come up with new ideas to design new ones. I also absolutely love to travel.
I visit a new country every year and spend at least a month there to try living like the native people. Before travelling to a new country I also start listening to their music so that I can groove right in the clubs haha.
2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start.
The page and the video was highly unplanned. Due to my earlier job (Consultant - Aviation Industry) I had to travel a lot. Most of my clients were from Europe and the Middle east.
For product delivery, I used to work onsite for 2-3 months and due to the time difference, I couldn’t really talk to mom so often. Hence whenever I used to visit mom dad I used to record her so that I could revisit the videos later (while travelling or while I'm feeling low).
I used to put some videos on my personal Instagram handle and a lot of my friends used to suggest that I should make another page for Mom but I used to think it was a silly idea. One day a senior from college, who is very brilliant and is in the US now, suggested that I open the page. And that's how it started.
Very few videos until today are recorded after the page was a hit. I'm mostly putting videos from the old collection that I had.
3. Is content creation a financially sustainable career?
Yes and no!
It mostly depends on you! How you want to take it forward and how you want to define the page. My mom is really happy that she's earning on her own now, after so many years of being a part of everyone else's dreams. It is her time to shine now.
However, you live by the day. There is a twist of uncertainty for sure. There are no real goals or milestones you can define in content creation. You just have to go with the flow and be hopeful.
4. Who is your favourite creator and why?
My favourite creator is kobe_yn. It is a two-year-old kids account which is handled by his mother. The kid and the mom cook together and that's what is showcased on their page.
They put up very wholesome videos with happy music, kid spelling out food's names and cooking, and doing like a cute goodbye at the end of the video. It fills me up with joy!
5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
Due to covid, my office has offered to work from home so I'm currently put up with them. My content inspiration is mostly on the dining table while eating when I sit down with mom and she narrates a story or just normal day to day talk.
My mom has always been this cool storyteller and quick-witted person. Her comebacks give serious burns. So I record her in the act sometimes.
However, lately, I've tried to recollect some of her comebacks and asked her to recreate them.
6. What does your typical day look like?
My typical day starts by 7 am. I hit the gym, come back and log in for work. My office hours end by 6 pm. I try to spend some time cycling or playing Basketball or badminton (the sport depends on the number of players available). I
am a very social person and I love to be around my friends. Most days 'THE GROUP' meets for evening tea. That is then followed by a family dinner. After dinner, I like to give some time to myself and my personal work. Be it Insta content creation or article reading or just lazing out.
I try to do some quality activity over the weekend. Plan a hike or swim. I've also enrolled for shooting classes - Just some activity that adds value to me.
7. Which is your favourite book and why?
Very honestly I'm not so much of a reader. My attention span is worse than a two-year-old. I have read very few books and what stood out was Sapiens: A brief history of mankind.
The book has absolutely changed the way I see things. The story is backed up with facts and interesting examples which makes it worthwhile. The book is very well written and is an overview of humanity presented from a big history point of view.
It is very thought-provoking and so logically submitted. This book offers the chance to think about what a human being is, what a government is, and how we happen to be born into this type of world. It tries to answer the hardest question, “Why?” And sometimes gets it right. Sometimes not quite right on.
But its importance has more to do with getting people to lift themselves out of their mundane role-playing life and look at how we arrived at this point in time. A very worthwhile read.
8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?
I would like to give the creators only one piece of advice - Be original and treat yourself as your own follower to judge your content before posting.
