Success comes to those who pursue their goal with purpose and dedication
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
As a little girl I loved singing, I was a quick learner and music almost came naturally to me. My first visit to the recording studio was at the age of 13 and I instantly fell in love with the place. In school and college, I performed at various competitions and events. It was during my musical journey that I found my true calling – voicing!
I really enjoyed imitating cartoon characters, singing radio jingles and trying different accents. But it was just a smally side hobby and I never really knew that a separate, vast industry called the voice over industry existed.
After completing my post-graduation, I joined the corporate world. I worked in the media and entertainment Industry as Public Relations professional. Everything was going fine but somehow, somewhere deep down I always knew that there is more to my journey and this isn’t my final destination.
My 9-5 was paying my bills but couldn’t satisfy my creative soul. I took a leap of faith and quit my job and jumped right into the world of voice. I got my first international client within two months of entering this beautiful field.
2. What inspired you to become a voice over artist?
The thing that fascinates me the most about this industry is that you have the ability to touch millions of hearts with the power of your voice. The best part of the voice industry is that with every character you discover a different part of you.
3. Do you often have to keep upskilling yourself?
Absolutely, upskilling yourself is extremely important if you want to stay relevant. I make sure that I set aside some time every week just for learning.
During my learning hour I love to explore more about audio editing, learn about accents and dialects and take up online classes - one of my favourites is the master class by Nancy Cartwright, who voiced the character, Bart Simpson.
4. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become a voice artist?
I live by the 3P rule – Practice, Persistence and Patience
Rejections are a part of this industry; you have to give multiple auditions before you book your dream project. Therefore, in order to sustain in this industry, you need to have a never give up attitude. Success comes to those who pursue their goal with purpose and dedication.
5. Who is your role model and why?
There are a lot of people whom I look up to and who inspire me daily. In the voice industry Parul Bhatnagar’s journey really inspires me. She is a known voice artist who has voiced for the most popular cartoons characters like Himawari and Neni (Shinchan), Shizuka (Doraemon) and many more. I love the fact that her voice is so versatile that it fits every character perfectly.
6. What is your mantra of success?
If you can see it in your imagination, you can manifest it into your reality
Don’t quit before the miracle happens.
7. Which is your favourite book and why?
Attitude is everything by Jeff Keller.
