Sumedha Sharma - I Gathered All My Confidence to Push Myself Out of Engineering Into a Design School to Explore Myself and Be My Authentic Self (Fashion Blogger from India)

Never give in to the trends and societal needs and lose yourself.

1.Tell us about your background and journey.

I used to be that underconfident kid wanting to do everything possible only to impress their parents. My journey has been a rollercoaster because I was someone who was dragged into doing engineering when all I really connected with was design.

It was during my hard years at engineering when I realised how deeply I connected with fashion as a way to express myself. I gathered all my confidence to push myself out of engineering into a design school to explore myself and be my authentic self.

I started off by posting random OOTD videos- not knowing what content creation was back then, and then Myntra Superstar happened. That journey has been life-changing for me. It helps me gain an audience who vibes with my real vibe and appreciates all sides of me- The glam and the goofy.

2.What led you to start your Blog and what is it about?

I never believed in the constraints of society when it came to fashion and body type. I started off trying to empower the general public to love themselves the way they are- believing in themselves, their bodies and their art. That, somehow resonated with people and it makes me immensely happy that I'm not just influencing, but also empowering my audience.

3.Is it financially sustainable to be a digital creator these days?

Yes and no. I feel a lot of people run after money and lose their authentic selves in the process, while for me, I only take up work that I connect with. Some brands really appreciate the art and pay well, while others are struggling themselves, hence we help each other out to establish.

Even though I did this full time for almost 2 years, I'd say that doesn't depend on this solely. It's still a growing field, and the money flow won't be stable. It takes years of hard work and planning to actually be able to make just this job alone work it all out for you, but trust me, it's a happy process.

4.How can someone become a successful content creator?

Just by following one simple mantra- Never give in to the trends and societal needs and lose yourself. It's really important to stay authentic and actually treat this as proper work and not run after brand deals and sponsorships.

5.How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

It's everyday life really. Look around you- there's art everywhere in different forms. I love doing this for me, and that keeps me going. I'm blessed with great friends and family who actually motivate me to keep doing what I do and that along with my favourite music in the background does wonders, haha.

6.Who is your favourite creator and why?

It'd be hard and unfair to name just one. Being in this industry for over 2 years now, I've made some great friends and connections. And, even though there are some whose content I don't resonate with, yet their hard work and the creative process really inspire me. I really respect people who stand true to their content and put in the effort to make their audience smile.

7.Which is your favourite book and why?

Ouch, this question hurts because I'm not a reader and I'm judged for that. I'm more into movies and hence the video content. I can't even recall the last book I read, and I'm not proud of that, hahaha.
