Tino Orsini - There Are No Shortcuts & You Must Work Hard And Persevere But If It Makes You Feel Alive And Can’t Do Anything Else Then Go For It And Enjoy The Ride (Actor, UK)

If being an actor is the only thing you want to do then start by learning the craft of acting with a good coach, read lots of books on acting and performing and believe in yourself

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born in Italy and spent my early childhood there until we joined my dad in London in the late 70’s.

I’d always loved listening to the radio and watching Television but by emigrating to the UK I was introduced to theatre and cinema.

I started doing school plays and then went off to Los Angeles in my early 20’s to really pursue a career as an actor and began training with the Stella Adler Conservatory and began working and have been doing so til now with credits ranging from feature films, Television and of course theatre.

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

I didn’t know what an actor really did when I was growing up.

Watching television I thought that was real people and I never imagined that one day I would be on stage or screen.

Then I started school plays and loved creating a character and learning lines and affecting an audience with powerful ideas and images and I knew that was what I was meant to do. It felt right and it still does in many ways.

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

If being an actor is the only thing you want to do then start by learning the craft of acting with a good coach, read lots of books on acting and performing and believe in yourself. It’s a difficult path in many ways but it’s exhilarating and empowering.

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

I often get asked what else I’d be doing; I guess I’d have been a train driver!

5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

Follow your path and do what feels right. There are no shortcuts and you must work hard and persevere but if it makes you feel alive and can’t do anything else then go for it and enjoy the ride!

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

I’m an avid reader and love biographies and such.

I’m a big fan of all the books that have been written by  the author Armistead Maupin. (I’ve been having online yoga sessions with his husband Chris!)

I can’t think of one particular book so maybe I’m still looking.

7. What is your mantra of success?

Success/luck  is when preparation meets opportunity is one of my favourite mantras by the philosopher Seneca.
