2. How can one take care of their mental health in this high pressure glamorous field?
As a celebrity who is being recognized most of the time, it is very difficult to keep up with my privacy and mental health. Throughout the years I have learned to control my emotions, and try not to take anything personally. I have taught myself to have two separate worlds which is my celebrity self and myself.
I figured out that it is in my hands to have an on and off switch, so I can enjoy the fame as much as I’d like to or just handle the situation as a part of my career. Having some daily routines which will satisfy my soul is something that I have trained myself for.
Going to the gym, outdoor activities, spending time with my family and meditating helps me to take the anxiety out of my system, become more productive and stay more focused on the positive sides of being famous. However, having some alone time to recharge myself and my thoughts is a must in my case.
3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to make it on a tv show?
Back in 1998 when I was a teenager with a big dream of becoming a celebrity, I have had a difficult road to reach my goals. At that time, TV was the number one platform to become famous, however, being employed by a TV station was a challenge.
Back in those days, we had to stand in long casting lines in order to attend an audition. Also, there was no guarantee that after the first audition you would’ve ever gotten the call back. Emotionally and mentally, it was very difficult to not receive that call back, and you had to keep on going to another audition, and another one.
However, with the right mindset, passion and creativity, you become confident that you can reach your goal as much as the road is difficult. On the other hand, today’s teenagers have the vast platform of the social media to become celebrities just from their own cellphones and some apps.
Despite the fact that the opportunities have been changed, for me there is only one philosophy for being confident; one should never ever listen to the negative opinions of others, let alone the positive ones which might put you in a very wrong path.
4. If not this, what would you be doing?
Despite the fact that I have always known that I was going to be a TV personality, I have sometimes also thought about what another path I would’ve taken for my career. The answer always leads to something related to communicating with people.
I have thought about law, and being a lawyer in order to help people, to protect them and to encourage them. However, throughout the years, from whatever I have experienced on my show, one thing became clear for me that as a second major, I wanted to become a psychologist.
Being a psychologist helped me realize people’s personality in depth, knowing their childhood traumas which shaped their personality as an adult, and trying to help them became a mission for me in the limits of my show.
5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?
Always stay happy.
6. What is your mantra of success?
One can find a million reasons and excuses for not doing something, but you can find one reason to make your dreams come true. I have chosen that one reason to follow my dreams and that is the mantra of my success, when you find that one reason and move forward leaving all those millions of reasons behind your back.
7. How important is social media validation in your profession?
The role of social media in our life today is very important specially for public figures like me. Despite the fact that anyone can become social media celebrity these days, there are some values that are unchangeable. Social Media can make a person famous in one day, and break that fame the next day.
However, when you are already a public figure, the social media just becomes another platform for you to show your work to your fans. I, personally, try to be involved in social media as much as possible and show my fans anything related to my work.
However, lately I am trying also to share some personal activities that is going on in my life to my fans which gives a boost to the views and involvement of my fans in my page. In my opinion, if you become involved in promoting yourself on social media, all the platforms should be promoted equally.
8. Which is your favorite book and why?
There are so many books from which I have specific parts or ideas that I like, or I have learned from. However, The Little Prince by Exupery is one of my favorites of all times because of the deep storyline and there are so many layers in this story.
As many time as you read this book and in whatever age you read, there’s something specific that you can find to learn from in this book.
