Tell us more about your background and journey.

I am born in Santander, Spain a family of photographers. I was always interested in art. In 1991 I went to Bilbao to study Fine Arts, specializing in painting. In the year 2000, I go to London to do my postgraduate and Master where I become a mixed media artist. Depending on the idea I start using one medium or another. In my works, I try to show innovative art, far from stereotypes. I am considered a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose line is marked by codes of free and surprising nature.

When did you decide you wanted to be an artist?

I have decided to be an artist since I was little. At the age of 5, I won a contest at school drawing the town hall of my city. My father took me to a bench and with a board and a piece of paper I started to draw. I asked my father for help to make the lines straight and he told me: you have to do it by yourself. The prize was a box with paints, markers and pencils, I thought that with that I could do everything.

Is it a financially stable career?

It is an obstacle course. Sometimes it is very difficult to get financing for projects. It is a tough profession even though there are rewarding moments.

Who is your favourite artist and why?

I am curating Spencer Tunick I think his work is interesting. Undressing is not taking off your clothes but stripping off everything to understand who we are, where we are going and where we come from. So he observes life as if nothing is necessary.

Where do you get inspired to create art?

Due to so much dedication and knowledge of the environment and of society and its concerns, ideas appear clearly in my mind in a natural way.

What does your typical day look like? What makes your art unique?

I get up and go for an hour walk. I look at the email to see if I have an interesting proposal, then I start with the computer to retouch some photographs. Right now I am doing quite a few projects focused on digital or manipulated photography. Each period is different. I think my art is unique because it is nothing like other works that I see.

What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring artists?

I think that art has to be vocational if you don't leave it on the way. I think the best recipe for an artist is to act freely.
