Throughout the history of mankind, people lived in society and that formed into nations according to ethnic ingroups. Pride for national identity and desire to conquer the rest of the territories in the world and spreading idealogy led to violence and bloody wars.
Current affairs of the Russian invasion of Ukraine are due to a strong sense of identity of the nationality by using political propaganda and justifying military aggression in the name of historic amnesia, fear of the western idealogy, and superiority.
This article brings the psychological causes of wars and the use of people’s sentiments to trigger unnecessary nationalism to the extent of causing such destruction and loss of innocent lives just for the interest of dirty politics.
The Big Picture
Nationality as a concept originated from European colonists shaping the world’s political administration. Half of the world was ruled by European colonists with Britishers colonizing a significant part of the world from the Asian continent to American soil to Australian and Oceanic territories followed by Portuguese, French, and Spanish people colonizing the South American continent with the African continent suffering the worst effect of colonization and slavery.
The independent countries that emerged against colonization were not primarily due to the freedom struggle of locals but were caused due to political and economic depression after world war 2.
As these colonists left the continents, they ensured that ethnic people did not reunite and rise against them. Hence, every country's independence was fueled by violent fights among ethnic people for national pride in ruling the newly found independent territory.
The common idealogy behind the after wars and revolution and rebellion in the post WW2 was Capitalism vs Communism. Russia imposing their communist idealogy, and the USA's desire of having Capitalism were the primary cause of internal rebellion, unrest in Eastern Europe and fall of the USSR, Russia-Ukraine disputes, and politics.
In that process, soldiers from both sides sacrifice their lives to fight or defend their motherland but at the cost of destruction in the name of self-defense. Isn’t this ironic, if thoughts are given, all disputes between borders and countries have never happened.
Some of the Causes of Pride of Nationality and Hatred for other Nations
Historic Amnesia

The above picture is the North Korean poster showing the outside world particularly the USA as evil people killing their people. This is a propaganda poster, the weapon used till today’s date in North Korea to remind of historic amnesia and provoke deep roots of hatred towards the outside world.
Such incidents are used in many nations as a political move to keep unrest and prevent peace to prevail. In the fear of nonexistence and suppressing of idealogy, politics play with the minds of people and use ingroups' tendency to have war, hate, and revenge of past disturbing nostalgia.
Civilians are brain-washed with such narcissist politics by inducing a strong root of identity by a nation to the extent of taking other's life and sacrificing their own lives as well. Even after a century, the world has not changed much to understand the hidden truth of political forces.
Political Propaganda behind Educating the History
History is written by the one who survives it and rules the world. Most of history is based on the written scriptures and evidence that are tangible and heard orally from everyone.
In reality, a nation’s history is created and shaped by the leaders and rulers in which many facts are overshadowed and hidden from the world. Facts that glorify their personal goals are taught from generations and a seed of false pride is sowed which is often toxic and hurtful against disputed countries.
Currently, in the Russia Ukraine war, it's unfortunate that the political system is functioning in the brutal interest of one narcissist leader, and using the fear of NATO idealogy.
These moves are tactfully done to control psychology and prevent peace. Unless such dark traits remain among people, the world has a hard time getting along with each other.
Bottom Line
The world wants peace, but unless there is the pride of nationality and superior spirit of one nation over another, the world will have a hard time resolving disputes. Mankind must realize the truth about history and not let political motives rule their minds.
This can be achieved through correct knowledge and information shared among the masses.
Peace will prevail across the planet only when the truth is transparent to the masses, and mankind will no longer need a defense force. Although this won’t be an easy task, it’s a long journey ahead and will only be possible when mankind identifies themselves as children of planet Earth and not by nation, religion, color, or ethnicity.
