DJ Jason D’Reego - DJ Requires Technical Understanding And A Sense Of Rhythm (DJ From India)

DJ Jason D'Reego

I have played at multiple music festivals, alongside fellow artists and have held the position of resident DJ at many well-known places in Kolkata. I have also been lucky to have got the opportunity to share the stage with celebrity DJs such as Lost Stories, Greff, Ray Ray, Ritviz, Zephyrtone, etc.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was 11 when I used to listen to you on the radio every Saturday post 9, the show was called Club Mirchi hosted by DJ Richard. My sister had downloaded Virtual DJ on our laptop to help a friend with her War of DJs, so I started fidgeting with the software my interest in djing started growing since then, and have had the opportunities to play at many well-known places.

2. Is DJ'ing a mainstream and financially stable career in India? Your views.

Djing anywhere around the world is a mainstream career if you correctly market yourself but it's not a financially stable career. We all know how the nightlife industry was affected by the Pandemic. However, it is a career that requires hard work and a lot of exposure to get noticed.

I think that it is slowly becoming a more mainstream option for people in India. Playing for people and watching the crowd respond is a feeling beyond measure. The satisfaction of mixing and creating something new in a rush makes up for its financial aspect.

3. Who is your favorite artist and why?

My favorite artist is Skrillex because his skills on the stage and in the studio are unmatched.

4. What is your go-to genre?

My go-to genres which I enjoy playing are Hip-hop, Reggaeton, Moombahton, Future House, Future Bass & Indian Bass.

5. What are some of the common myths about your profession that you would like to dismiss?

Our professionals have a pretty bad reputation because of a handful of people who think that it is as easy as playing a song. A common stereotype is that DJs are dull whereas a sound knowledge of things is essential. It requires technical understanding, a sense of rhythm, a taste that is required to mix just the right songs, and a flow that supersedes any glitch that happens. A sense of awareness and a dynamic personality add to the fit.

6. What are the opportunities that you get by becoming a DJ? Share yours.

If you have the right Marketing, Management and you love what you do, there are plenty of opportunities out there. It's honestly like a dream come true.
