Is Social Media a Source of Entertainment or a Source of Anxiety?

Social Media nowadays has become an obsession of the majority of people. Many of them started using it as a time pass to connect with friends, family, and even strangers but slowly and steadily this made-up/fake world of social media became one of the greatest enemies of mental health. Why is social media driving the psychological health situation among teenagers?

Researchers have discovered that strong social media usage may lead to resentment, jealousy, and still questioning one’s self-worth. Those who grow accustomed to communicating via text may have crippling social anxiety, in-person connection, after all, may not be edited and operated like the curated online language (a recent international study by LivePerson found that 75% of English Generation Z and millennials respondents like to speak to people via text communication, over in-person.)

How Does It Affect People’s Minds?

Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist and professor at California State University, stated that “Social media is essentially cultural relation on steroids. People showcase the most aspirational version of themselves on social media– original homes, overpriced dinners, unusual holidays. It’s human nature to consider ourselves to others to discover how to act and measure social expectations, but that turns into difficulty when it feeds down self-esteem or stimulates anxiety.”

This being said, Social media today is also inevitable. Even if you withhold the kids from always seeing TV and getting the iPad handy within their particular socialization, the cultural identity can even thread on that life within the digital age. It’s turned into something physical. If I want the brief gap between writing blogs and appointments,  I am going on my newsfeed to find what's current.  It's kind of a process.

Today, how about cultural media?  Well, everyone wants allies.  Everyone wants a means to interact with friends, near and far. Everyone wants to be a part of the group. But are social networking companies fulfilling these demands? Is this still what they are trying to tell us?

Do the double cultural networks, hundreds or thousands of friends you take on them, their contents and status updates and photos and quotations of this time– represent these giving you what you need? Is that the hope of a better life for you?

If you have made yourself up on social media, it may be impossible to live up to the role in the real-life place. Continuing to change behind Technology may seem like the best way to avoid any trouble and this will be highly stressful and still harmful to psychological well-being. Be yourself the way you are and you may only alleviate some of the emotion.

Instagram and Influencers’ Influence

Instagram users or so-called influencers post many things about their personal life on social media and that life appears to be perfect. People start feeling anxious about not looking good, not having perfect friends, or a perfect life. This creates insecurity about themselves in their mind. They are no longer confident and start becoming introverts. This affects their mental health badly.

Social Media and Near Future

According to experts, the existence of social media, messaging and digital substitutes for human action can alter the way humans are acting in societal and cultural ways. After the way in the decades led to the switch of the desktop OS through browsers and sites, another paradigm change from browsers to apps has been realized in the final years.

However, another field effect is on the horizon. Beer Sheth boldly reports that even as websites replace computer applications, messaging extends until it includes code. So, if messaging is the current structure, then bots are these original apps.

Conclusion

Social media is something that comes with pros and cons both. If there are people who showcase their fake and lavish life, there are some people who support reality and are comfortable appreciating their flaws as well.

So, it depends on us which type of content we wish to choose for ourselves. Let’s try to make social media a safe place for everyone by being real and accepting. By this, it can easily turn from a source of anxiety to a source of loads of confidence.
