Synopsis (Non-Spoiler)

Jab We Met narrates the story of a goofy Punjabi girl, Geet Dhillon, who meets a depressed Mumbai businessman, Aditya Kashyap, on an overnight train to Delhi. While attempting to get him back on the train when he alights at a station stop, both are left stranded in the middle of their destination.

Having left his corporate business in the middle after being dumped by his girlfriend, Aditya has no destination in mind, until Geet forces him to accompany her home to her family, and then on to elope with her secret boyfriend, Anshuman. The film is primarily based in Mumbai, Bhatinda, and Shimla.

Themes Involved

One of the most important aspects, this movie covers is self-love. Geet constantly throughout the movie renders how significant it is to accept yourself. You may have qualities that the other person might not like that does not mean that you need to change yourself. When on a train, going from Mumbai to Bhatinda, Geet goes on and on and talks nonstop whereas Aditya does not want to invest in a conversation at that time. But do we see Geet shutting her mouth? No

Secondly, we also in the movie that it does not go according to what Geet planned but she accepts and deals with it. Similarly in real life, it cannot always be the same way you imagined it to be but we must learn to deal with it. As the saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Do not try to run away from the choices you made, stay and fight.

Another prime teaching presented is to be kind. You don’t know what the other person is going through so try to always be polite in your speech. Just like Aditya, some people are not so vocal about their feelings but that does not mean they don’t feel them. Always consider another human as yourself and then act accordingly.

Famous Dialogues

“Main apni favorite hoon!”

“Jo kuch insaan real mein chahta hai, actual mein, usse wahi milta hai.”

“Aap jo yeh bolte hai, iske paise charge karte hai ya muft ka gyaan hai? Kyuki chillar nahi hai mere paas!”

“Jab koi pyaar mein hota hai, tab koi sahi galat nahi hota.”

“ Tu original piece hai, maloom hai na tujhe? Aisa dosara nahi hai.”

“Tumhe uthakar museum mein rakhna chahiye… ticket lagni chahiye tumhe dekhne ke liye.”

The Bottom Line

Jab We Met is an evergreen movie. You can watch it anytime, anywhere. The film is not complex and presents itself in a breezy way. From the start till the end the movie grips you with its plot, which twists and turns and is completely unpredictable. The characters of Geet and Aditya feel relatable and take over you with undeniably strong chemistry. Grab a bucket of popcorn, and your favorite drink and watch it lazily on your sofa.

My ratings for the movie – 4.5 on 5
