In today’s unipolar world, India and Russia relations are a true example of friendship. Many countries had good relations with other countries in the past and now they are enemies but India and Russia's relations are never getting spoiled. Russia helped India in every situation and India also helped Russia with its worst situation.

Even the top leaders of the two countries Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin are best friends. Both countries are reliable partners. The majority of citizens of the two countries also give respect to each other. The relations of India with Russia started in 1947 after the Independence of India from Britain and Russia, at that time called USSR, had started the Cold War with the US.

The Soviet Union Helped India in the 1971 War

When India had a war with Pakistan in 1971, Almost all the countries supported Pakistan, whether it was diplomatic or to give arms to Pakistan. Few countries supported India but they are not strong countries. The US has sent its naval assets to the Indian Ocean to help Pakistan and counter India.

There was only the Soviet Union that helped India in the war and he also stopped the American ship which was in the Indian Ocean. USSR warned all the countries that if they take action against India then they have to face dangerous consequences which affect the World. Only the USSR was the strong country that supported India in the war.

Russia helped India in Kashmir Issue in the UN

After the disintegration of the USSR, Russia became the successor of the Soviet Union. Every position that the Soviet Union held was given to Russia and the United Nations Security Council's permanent seat was one of them. Whenever Pakistan raises the issue of Kashmir in the UN security council, Russia votes in favor of India and vetoes the issue and when India removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Russia was the first country who supported India in this decision.

When India conducted its first nuclear test in Pokhran, the US imposed many sanctions on India but Russia supported India on this decision. When India had a shortage of foreign reserves, Russia accepted our Indian currency. India imported the majority of defense items from Russia and recently the S400 missile system has been delivered to India. 70 percent of defense items in the Indian Armed Forces had been of Russian origin.

India Abstract From Voting of Unto Save Russia

Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the USA and many European countries have voted against Russia in the UN but India is absent from the voting of every United Nations voting procedure which signifies that India is indirectly supporting Russia by abstracting in UN voting. Because India doesn’t want its relationship to being spoiled with America or European countries that’s why India is becoming neutral on this issue and indirectly supporting Russia.

Trade Is Increasing Between India and Russia

Trade is also one of the factors between India and Russia relations. India and Russia trade many items and trade are increasing in these two countries every year. They set an aim that in 2030, the trade between the two countries will expand up to 30 Billion Dollars.

When India purchased the S400 defense system from Russia, the US warned India that if India purchased this system then they would have to face US sanctions. But India didn't listen to the US and India and Russia found an alternative to face the sanctions which are India used its currency to purchase the weapon and Russia also accepted Indian currency.

Russia Helps India in Various Sectors

Russia helped India in various sectors like Defence, Energy, etc. Russia and India jointly developed the supersonic Brahmos Missile which is the fastest cruise missile in the World and Sukhoi aircraft are also manufactured in India with help of Russia through the transfer of technology.

When Russia develops the 5th generation fighter aircraft Sukhoi SU 57, India is one of the countries which is invited by Russia to purchase this weapon. Russia also helped in India’s nuclear sector by jointly making the nuclear power plants which are helping India to enhance its nuclear capability. India and Russia are also investing in each other's countries to make them developed and strong countries in terms of economic and military.
