Are Coaching Classes Beneficial for Students Preparing for School Tests and Competitive Exams?

“Which coaching institution or private tutor have you joined ?” is a question most students ask each other these days.

Gone are the days when a handful of students used to join coaching classes, and those students were perceived to be academically weak, so, this used to be a matter of shame or embarrassment. But, now, things have changed…

This becomes the new normal. Almost every student enrols in some form of coaching.

The teacher is better able to focus on learning and the entire development of the pupils in Coaching Institutions. FIITJEE, ALLEN, AAKASH, and other well-known institutions are only a few examples.

Are Coaching classes necessary?

  • This is completely dependent upon the sincerity and diligence of the students.

  • But, most people think that though the institutions charge a lot, and sometimes the quality of education is not proportional to the amount of money spent, they do influence the results, and help provide the proper guidance which they need for complicated exams such as JEE, NEET, CLAT, and other entrance exams, or even board exams.

Benefits of Coaching Classes.

  • Students are provided with the Right guidance, special attention, personalized methods, flexible timings, options between teachers, etc.

  • Most problems ranging from the retention of learnt material, or lack of exposure or opportunities are been addressed by the coaching institutions, in a very professional, student-friendly manner.

  • Another issue students face is that the students feel they are not listened to in a classroom or sometimes shy away or hesitate to ask their doubts. But, in a coaching centre, a student joins it to clear his/her doubts. So, there is a free and positive environment in a coaching centre, because, the student feels that he/she is being listened to, without judgement.

  • Because of this, when one student asks a doubt, he/she gets cleared the doubts of several other students also. This allows people to learn from one another while also honing their teamwork and knowledge-sharing skills.

  • A coaching method allows learners to make outstanding judgments and choices for themselves, fostering personal responsibility and accountability.

  • Through your role modelling, students will develop their coaching skills, learning how to bring out the best in themselves and the people around them.

Disadvantages of Coaching Classes

  • The coaching centres charge huge sums of money from the students, which burdens their families. In many cases, students are exempted from knowledge, because they cannot afford the fees.

  • Also, usually, the coaching centres give a lot of homework, assignments, mock tests, etc, which in many cases make the students overburdened, and they fail to manage the school and coaching.

  • Due to the huge number of applicants and handful of seats, the competition increases tremendously, which causes stress and is harmful to the mental health of the students.

Online Coaching Classes for exams

Nowadays, especially after the pandemic began, many students are preferring online coaching, from the comfort of their homes. Many institutions like Aakash, made the coaching in online mode only. Others such as Byjus or Vedantu, Unacademy etc. These organizations have made huge money, and the students have been able to improve their scores also.

  • Online coaching is more exciting in many respects since it contains graphics and animation, and it is less expensive.

  • It allows you to save a significant amount of time and energy.

  • The schedule is flexible, and students have the option of viewing recorded classes to ensure that they do not miss anything.

  • Guidance and teaching methods can be tailored to the individual.

Conclusion

Students in grades 9 through 12 who are studying for board exams, competitive tests, and admission exams are increasingly turning to coach institutes. Students who thrive academically do not need to enrol in coaching institutes and can prepare for these exams by self-study.

Students who feel compelled to enrol in coaching institutes to improve their learning and score higher on these exams should consider factors such as previous students' academic records and the fact that they can enrol in coaching classes only for the subjects in which they require extra help. Additionally, students should prioritise self-study and teacher aid at school.
