Biography of Chandrashekar Azad: India’s Brave Freedom Fighter








Chandrasekhar Tiwari is also known as Chandrasekhar Azad. He was born on July 23, 1906, in baba India. He organized a led band of militants during India’s independence movement.

The band of militants is of youths. He inspired many youths. Whenever we remember the ones who sacrifice their lives for the nation, the first name that came to our mind is Chandrasekhar Azad. At a very small age, he lost his life for a nation without any hesitation.


Childhood of Chandrasekhar Azaad



He was born in a pandit family, his parent's name was Pandit Sita ram Tiwari and Jagran Devi. He was born on July 23, 1906, in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabba district bhava village. He was a fervent follower of Lord Hanuman. He grew up with Bhils and he learned swimming.

His parents want him to become a Sanskrit scholar but he chooses for himself. He was sent to Kashi Vidyapeeth for studies, but it didn’t happen.


His work as a freedom fighter



Azad was brave from his childhood. when he was a teenager he got apprehended by police. He was just 15 years old when he participated in Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement which was started in 1922 in Banaras. He was suppressed by police for 23 weeks and he also gets 15 lashes per day as punishment.

He changed his name for Chandrasekhar Tiwari to Chandrasekhar azad. Azad is an Urdu word that means free or liberated. Not only this but he also addresses himself in prison.

Because of his age police didn’t arrest him but he was given severe flogging by police. Indian national congress admires him and soon he gets popular with the Indian people.

In February 1922, the non-cooperation movement is stopped by Gandhi because it changes violations and severe policemen lost their lives in this movement. Chandrasekhar Azad was not agreeing with Gandhi on this point. After this, he joined the Hindustan republican association (HRA) and after joining this he started violating crimes against the British government.

Slowly, many members were killed and imprisoned but this didn’t make him weak. He has very good organizing skills. His crime was increasing and this made him wanted.

If we go through Jawaharlal Nehru’s autobiography, it was said that Chandrasekhar Azad met Jawaharlal Nehru in 1931 to know what discussions are done on Gandhi Irwin Pact 1931.

He shoots himself with his last bullet. He arranged a meeting at Allahabad’s Alfred park which is now known as Azad park. He was betrayed by police, police surrounded him as he enters the park.

In this battle, two police officers were wounded. He didn’t want to kill by Britishers. He killed himself by shooting. Veerbhadra Tiwari cheated Chandrasekhar by giving information to the police.

In the year 1928, he shot j.p. Saunder to take revenge. J.p. Saunder was the killer of Lala Lajpat Rai. Chandrasekhar Azad also attempted to blow up India’s viceroy train in 1929.

Kakori train robbery was done by Chandrasekhar Azad in 1925 and revenge killing of a British officer in 1928. After the kakori train incident, asfaqulla khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, Prasad, and Rajendra Nath Lahori were found guilty and punished to death.

For a long time, he lived near the banks of the star river. there was a temple of Lord Hanuman. He practices his shooting skills in the forest of Orcha which is 15 km. far from Jhansi.

He also trained other members and also the people of the tribe. there was a village near the river named Dharam Pura. He started to teach children of dharampura which helps him to create good relations between them.

He also managed to learn the car in Jhansi with the help of the Bundelkhand motor garage which is in Sardar Bazar. slowly- slowly many people like Sasashivrao malkapurkar, Vishwanath Vaishampayan, and Bhagwan das joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).

Bundelkhand is the place where most of the people supported Chandrasekhar Azad. Dewan Kesri Shatrughan Singh which is the father of the Bundelkhand freedom movement helped Chandrasekhar amazed by all aspects.

Either financially or with the help of fighters he gave and helped him.Chandrasekhar azad said that “ Aisi jawani kisi kaam ki nhi jo apni matra bhoomi ke kaam na aa ske”. Such youthfulness is of no use which is of no use for their motherland.
