Everything You Need To Know About Patriotism

Patriotism is defined as a passionate affection for one's nation. This virtue motivates citizens to labor selflessly for their country and improve it. True patriots make up a truly developed country. In other terms, patriotism implies prioritizing the interests of the country before one's own. Patriotism is most visible during times of war. Furthermore, it contributes to the strengthening of the nation. There are additional meanings to patriotism.

Significance

Our country is commonly referred to as our motherland. This demonstrates that we must love our country as much as we love our mother. After all, our country is no less like a mother, nurturing and guiding us. Patriotism is a virtue that everyone should strive for since it improves the world.

Furthermore, it improves inhabitants' quality of life. It accomplishes this by requiring citizens to work in the best interests of the country as a whole. There would be no conflict of interest if everyone worked for the welfare of the country. As a result, a happy environment will prevail.

Following that, patriotism will be used to maintain peace and harmony. When citizens have a brotherly attitude, they will help one another. As a result, the country will be more cohesive. In short, patriotism is critical to the country's development. It eliminates selfish and destructive intentions, which reduces corruption. Similarly, if the administration is devoid of corruption, the country will develop more quickly.

What Do Different People Mean by Patriotism?

People show their patriotism in a variety of methods and roles. Soldiers, scientists, doctors, legislators, and other citizens demonstrate their patriotism via their work. Indian troops serve as role models for India's youth. A soldier is the ideal of heroism and uncompromising commitment to country, being highly scrupulous, affirmatively secular, and fully apolitical, with an ethos of working hard, minimal requirements, and frugal habits.

Mangalyaan, or the Mars Orbiter Mission, is a prime example of scientists' devotion to the country. The suffering of doctors and nurses in the midst of a pandemic demonstrates their loyalty to their country. Patriotism does not always require you to give your life for your nation; providing good service to the country and its people is also considered a sacrifice.

Mathunny Mathews is a shining example of patriotism. Mathews was an Indian resident of Kuwait who was credited for the safe airlift evacuation of around 170,000 Indians from Kuwait during the 1990 invasion of Kuwait. Only attending the flag hoisting ceremonies on August 15th and January 26th, posing for photos with the flag, and sharing on social media does not make you a true patriot. A true patriot is someone who genuinely cares about his nation. He battles against atrocities committed against his compatriots.

Real Patriots vs Fake Patriots

While many claimed that the British were patriots during his reign, some were phony patriots who took advantage of the circumstance to further their own agenda. Even now, many individuals genuinely love and respect their country, while others pretend to. A true patriot is someone who is dedicated to serving his country; he prioritizes the interests of his country and countrymen and is willing to give up all for the sake of his country. A false patriot, on the other side, is someone who claims to love his country and loudly displays his patriotism. He does so, however, for his own profit and does not truly feel these emotions.

Patriotism vs. Nationalism

The words patriotism and nationalism are frequently used interchangeably. Patriotism entails working to improve yourself and your situation. Nationalism, on the other hand, involves being proud of one's country, regardless of its great and negative aspects. While patriotism is admirable, nationalism is regarded as illogical and volatile.
