Know About Rani Lakshmi Bai: First Female Freedom Fighter in India

 

Rani Laxmi Bai which is also spelled as Lakshmi Bai was the leader of the Indian mutiny of 1857-1858. She was born on November 19, 1835, in Kashi, India.  Rani Lakshmi Bai is also known as The Rani of Jhansi. was one of the greatest freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence.


Life of Rani Lakshmi Bai


Her real name was Manikarnika and nick name was Manu. She was born in the family of Moropant Tambe and Bhagirathi spare or Bhagirathi Bai, they are from Maharashtra. 

Her mother passed away when she was 4 years old. Her father (Moropant Tambe) was a commander of war under Peshwa Bajirao 2 of Buthorr district. 

She studied at home and she have much more freedom than many girls of her age. She was also get trained in shooting, horsemanship, and fencing.

She married at the age of 7 but the marriage was consummated from the age of 14 with the king of Jhansi who was Ghangadhar Rao in 1842. After her marriage, her name changes from Manikarnika to Lamiae. 

They have a son named Damodar Rao but unfortunately. He died 4 months after birth. Before he died, they adopted their cousin’s son named Anand Rao who was changed to Damodar Rao.

She was known for her bravery. After the death of Gangadhar Tilak, lord Dalhousie says Rani Lakshmi Bai to leave the Jhansi because they don’t have their own heir. 

The revolt of 1857 had broken out in Meerut and the rani was ruling over Jhansi as regent for her minor son. Sir Hugh rose commanded British forces to capture Rani Lakshmi Bai in 1858.  

He demanded that she should surrender to them or else the city will be destroyed.  Rani Laxmi Bai says that “we fight for independence .in the words of Lord Krishna, we will if we are victorious, enjoy the fruits of victory, if defeated and killed on the field of battle, we shall surely earn eternal glory and salvation.”

This battle runs for two weeks, and the army was led by rani Lakshmi Bai but unfortunately, Rani Lakshmi Bai lost this battle. She was fighting with her infant son tying him to her back. 

Tatya Tope and other rebel soldiers help her to capture the fort of Gwalior. After this, she proceeded to fight with the British. She died while fighting in a battle in Gwalior on June 18, 1858, at the age of 23. She was dressed as a soldier while fighting and died as a soldier.


Her Remarkables as a Freedom Fighter


Sir Hugh rose says about Lakshmi Bai that “remarkable for her beauty, cleverness, and perseverance, she had been the most dangerous of all the rebel leaders, the best and bravest of all.”

She became the inspiration for all girls. she was the first female freedom fighter. there are many serials, movies, and poems that are made about her. One of the famous poems which were written by Subhadra kumara Chauhan perfectly defines the bravery, courage, and patriotism of rani Lakshmi Bai. 

The poem’s name is “khoob ladi martini woh to Jhansi rani thi”. There was a famous serial which was made on rani Lakshmi Bai’s biography named Jhansi ki rani. The main character (rani Lakshmi Bai) was performed by kratika Sengar and the male lead was performed by Sameer Dharm Adhikari. 

It started on 18 august 2009 and ended on 19 June 2011. There are many movies that are made on Rani Lakshmi Bai such as the tiger of the flame, Manikarnika the queen of Jhansi, and Jhansi Ki Rani.

She proves that women are same braver and stronger than men. There is a myth about her death that she burned herself because she didn’t want that her body to be captured by the British army, she didn’t burn herself. 

She wants that her body was never captured by Britishers so her bodyguard named Gul Muhammad Pathan took her to Gangadas Ashram when she was wounded. 

In Gangadas ashram Rani Lakshmi Bai took her last breath. Gangajal was poured by Ramachandra Rao into her mouth. Her body was cremated with wood and grass. There are many statues that are made in the memory of rani Lakshmi Bai. There was also a memoir of Gul Muhammad Pathan.
