7 Tips on Aquarium Fish Care: How To Keep Your Fish Happy?

First, we must understand that fishes are very delicate. When we keep an aquarium at houses or at the place of work we must keep in mind certain things or else our fishes will end up dead. There are very basic do’s and don’ts when it comes to fish care.

We must understand that it is necessary to make the aquarium as habitable as the seas would be otherwise you’re not keeping them in the right environment and it can cause them a lot of harm. It is also wrong for me to say that the fishes belong in the sea, it’s just that fishes would like to be in that habitat, but aquarium fishes are mostly bred for aquarium purposes only.

However there are a lot of things that we need to keep in mind while keeping an aquarium, they’re essential for your pet fishes in the aquarium.

Don’t Put The Fish Directly Into The Water

You see when we buy a fish from the store, those fishes are at one particular temperature, and when we directly put those in aquarium water their temperature does not match. These drastic and sudden fluctuations of the temperature could cause the fish to get a stroke when released suddenly into the water. What we should do ideally is to put the bag of fish in the aquarium water and allow it to float for 15- 20 mins. It will allow the fish to get accustomed to the water temperature.

Don’t Overcrowd Your Aquarium

Just because all the fishes look incredibly beautiful does not mean that you should put as many as possible in the tank. Will you be happy sharing your room with 5 more distant cousins? It is exactly that situation. Fishes also need enough room to swim and roam around in the aquarium. We should put fish into the tank according to how many gallons of water it will hold.

Not All Kinds Of Fish Can Stay Together

When a human being can’t be friends with everyone then why should fishes have it otherwise? It is natural to assume that a lot of fishes can’t mix well in the aquarium. Many times it has been seen that some fishes attack the other in the aquarium which results in the death of one fish.

For example, betta fish like to stay alone in a medium-sized aquarium, they won’t even share the room with their own kind. Their second name is “fighter” for a reason. Put two fighter aquariums side by side and you will see them attacking each other through the glass, it is a funny sight to witness really.

Use of Oxygen

Many people assume that goldfish do not need oxygen and they put them in a round bowl. It is incredibly misleading. They will survive for a few days but they will die eventually. All aquariums have to and must have an oxygen

setup. Like I said they are not normal fishes in the seas where there is no lack of oxygen.

It is a human-built aquarium where the oxygen pump releases water in the aquarium. So one aquarium definitely should have one. However there are exceptions like betta fish which live in a small tank and are small fishes only, they are fine just by keeping the lid open. One should educate themselves while buying or before buying a particular fish.

Over- feeding

When it comes to cute fishes in our aquarium we tend to get very much generous with giving them food, not knowing the exact amount of food to be given is the basic problem. As a result, they eat so much that they die. So we must count the number of pallets to be given to a particular fish and try to give an approximate number of pallets that will suffice the total number of fish in the tank. Twice a day food giving is enough for the aquarium fishes. In the case of carnivorous fishes, their food is also to be given as instructed.

Cleaning of Aquarium

The major problem becomes cleaning a large aquarium, it is a hectic task with a lot of labor, we must pick a date in 1-2 months and decide to clean the aquarium. First, we should put aside the fish in the bucket with a proportion of their current fish water and a proportion of fresh new water which does not cause any sudden water temperature change.

Second, we must clean out all the dirty water and throw it away. We must clean the pebbles or rocks or other kinds of accessories present in the aquarium properly before putting them back in the aquarium.

Third, cleaning the glass of the aquarium and the filters and oxygen pump is also essential.

Fourth, after filling the tank with freshwater put the fish back in the aquarium carefully along with a little proportion of the old water.

Adding Medicines To The Tank

It is essential to add medicational liquids into the tank for the sustainability of the livelihood of the fishes to live in the habitat. Important minerals and bacteria are necessary to be present in the tank. Medicines like stress relief will be beneficial for the fishes. But obviously do understand which medicines are suited for which kinds of fishes.

Having a pet as a fish is the best. They are amazing to look at and a sense of calmness looking at them is a good feeling. As compared to other pets, keeping fish requirements are pretty much minimum but effort is always

needed. With good effort and dedication, we can be part of the water life world. If we really think about it, this world is pretty amazing, from birds flying high to fishes swimming in the deepest of the oceans. Life is pretty beautiful, we only need to open our eyes to really see.
