How did Gautam Adani achieve it All? - From Diamond Checker to India's third Richest Man

He was born in 1962 in Ahmedabad. he was always interested in starting his own business. His father had clothes shop he was a retailer. 

He was from a middle-class family and didn’t have any background in business he started everything of his own will. After completing his 12 std Adani applied for Bcom admission in Gujarat University.

 But later he dropped out of college because he had family issues. He didn’t give up on his dream to have his own company. 

He started trying out new things, he wanted to know how a business works and what one can do to prosper in business. 

To fulfil this condition, he chose Mumbai as his new path toward starting his own business. After going to Mumbai, he got a Job in Jeweler’s shop as a diamond checker he worked there for more than 3 years and was an expert in it. Later he started his diamond shop. He was an exceptionally hard-working person.

How Did Adani Start His Business?

Adani didn’t had anything when he went to Mumbai. He started working in a Jeweler shop as a diamond checker. Later he opened his jeweller shop in a small local market side in Mumbai where he earned a lot of money and from this point, his journey in business started. 

His brother had started a business of plastic making in Gujarat so he used to call Adani to help him in his business. 

To make this plastic they needed almost 20 Ton of Polyvinyl chloride and IPC was the only company that use to produce this item so Adani had to import this item from them to make the plastics that’s how he got familiar and had many contacts with this export-import business. 

Adani was a curious and never missing an opportunity type of person after getting familiar with this business he got to know that there are many opportunities in this.

Journey Of Adani Enterprises

In 1988 he started his own business named Adani Exports, now known as Adani Enterprises. Adani was a trusted businessman and he had many years of experience in this field. 

He had built a trust factor with his customers and that’s how he prospered in his business. In 1991 at the time of Liberalization there were many opportunities for Private companies in which Adani made the best use of this opportunity, he started to invest in Infrastructure and expanded it. 

In 1993 there was one more opportunity that played a major role, the Gujarat Government started finding private companies that can take control of Mundra Port Tender which was later taken by Adani. 

And from this point, his dream started shaping a new way. Today, Mundra port is one of the biggest private ports.

How Did Adani Solve His Problem?

Adani’s import-export business was much more expanded and in profit that time so the ships used to use that port for arrivals but due to conjunction, they were a delay in delivery which was affecting his business so to solve this he entered in Ports. 

While importing or exporting the goods he had to use other’s ships which caused a problem due to the availability of ships so he bought ships. 

When he started the power business, he was facing problems with thermal coal he bought coal mines, and any problem related to coal transport was solved by starting a logistic company.

Any business-related problem was immediately solved by Adani and he made sure that he didn’t waste time. He never likes to be dependent on one thing for a long time. 

Later he started a coal mines business in Austria. His business was expanded in various ways and now he is the third Richest Guy in India.

Last Thoughts

Adani was a keen observer and learned the finances of the business. He understood that investments made in the early stage of business with a sound knowledge of the needs and demands of the industry will always yield great returns. 

Adani always liked to handle his problems and he started from a little. He was a curious and friendly person. 

He never stopped trying out new things that’s what made him prosper and learn. His journey is all about hard work, focus, determination, and success. 

The main thing that leads a person to achieve his goal is the “Will of Fire”. Where there is a will there is a way.
