Dredon Kelly - You Already Have The Desire in You Because You Want to Start, Next Is to Take Action (Soccer Player & Content Creator From Canada)

Dredon Kelly

I enjoy helping others and building my personal brand to have more income to help others. You can only do so much for yourself to be happy until you notice there’s a greater joy in making others happy.

1.Tell us about your background and journey.

In short, I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. It's a decent-sized town, with a population of 300,000+ people. Being in a smaller town, sometimes people will have a tendency of staying local to pursue their goals. My mindset has differed since I began playing soccer, at the age of 4. When I grew old enough to understand, I knew I had something great to offer.

I played in my local academy as well as got called up for our provincial team. Things took off in the right direction to get exposed in bigger cities. I was always discouraged from pursuing the pro soccer route and even playing for Division 1 soccer schools. I always looked past it because I knew what I could do and was willing to do the work to get there. Fast forward to my first year of university, I was scouted by York University, the #1 team in the Nation, as a Central Defender.

After my first year there, I decided I wanted to play for a Division 1 school in the states with hopes that I would get a full scholarship and have a better opportunity to play professionally after. After being told it would be impossible to do that since I hadn't played in a regular season game at York. I decided to take it into my own hands to pray, put in the work, and believe that something would happen. I emailed every single school there was in Division 2, and Division 1.

Some offers were lower than I wanted but I knew that what I wanted would soon come. Eventually, I got to my last school, Wofford. And just what I had been looking for, caught up with me, a full ride soccer scholarship to play and study. I completed my BA in Mathematics and was called in to transfer to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for another full scholarship to begin my Mathematics Master’s Program while completing my final playing year of soccer.

We reached the Top 10 Soccer Ranks in the Nation and I continued to pursue my professional contract with a top club. The story continues to today. Just like before, I know what I want, and I know I will get there in a matter of time.

2. What led you to start your Instagram page and what is it about?

I started my Instagram page to share photos and updates about my life with my friends, and family until it turned into more of my own personal brand to inspire people, entertain, and possibly more.

3. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content for your page?

Sometimes ideas just come to me in my regular daily life. I make sure to take notes of them before I forget. Other times I choose trends from social media that interest me and align with my brand.

4. How did you create your 1st reel on Instagram? Tell us more about its journey.

I created my first reel on Instagram when I noticed that people enjoyed watching them. It seemed like reels were picking up traction and I wanted to see if I had anything interesting to offer my audience.

5. Who is your favourite creator and why?

Vic Blends. He’s authentic and it seems like he really has a passion for helping people. I like that kind of content because it inspires more people to help each other. We need this in our society.

6. What advice would you like to give to those who want to start something but are afraid of taking that step?

Just do it. You already have the desire in you because you want to start, next is to take action. Our actions are more powerful than we think. Finally, be consistent and find the right balance so it remains fun.

7. What does your typical day look like? What are your favourite pastime activities?

I have a couple part-time jobs so I’m typically working one of those during the day. After work, I split time to train for soccer and create content. I also like to read books like Think and Grow Rich, one of my favourites, or Math books. We have unlimited power with our minds, faith, and God.

8. What do you most enjoy about your work?

I enjoy helping others and building my personal brand to have more income to help others. You can only do so much for yourself to be happy until you notice there’s a greater joy in making others happy.

9. Was there any setback in your journey that you later realised was a stepping stone?

I have had so many setbacks that I began to realise I’m meant to do so much more than I thought. All the setbacks and those to come are big lessons to be learned and turned around.

10. How do you deal with criticisms? Any tips for amateurs in this field?

I take the info that is useful to me and discard the rest that isn’t. It’s so easy to read or hear negative comments and let it spoil it. I tune it out, as best as I can.
