Richelle Mead's popular YA book series has been adapted twice, with the Vampire Academy Peacock show being the second in the last ten years. Vampire Academy portrays creatures like the Moroi, Dhampirs, and Strigoi, based in St. Vladimir's Academy.

From the time the introduction of the Vampire Academy begins, the show gives crucial details. The show starts with descriptions of the three supernatural species, the Moroi, Dhampirs, and Strigoi. It gives the viewers a better understanding of the intricate universe of Peacock's Vampire Academy.

Moroi

The Moroi are good-natured, born vampires. They can command elements that give them magical powers. Although sunlight does not kill Moroi, it bothers them. For this reason, they have a reversed schedule, with their day starting at dusk.

The Moroi rely on feeders who volunteer to provide blood for them. Besides blood, the Moroi also need regular meals, albeit not as much as humans or Dhampirs. The Moroi can go without eating for around two days, with no negative effects. But, they begin to deteriorate after two days. They start developing black bags under their eyes, losing vitality, and becoming paler.

The complexion of Moroi is exceptionally pale and incredibly attractive. In comparison to humans and Dhampirs, the Moroi are taller, and thinner, with less lean muscle. Both male and female Moroi have mystical beauty. Though, the female Moroi typically has smaller breasts and narrower hips.

There are twelve Royal Moroi families. The title "Prince" or "Princess" is given to the oldest member of a royal family. There is a Royal Council, composed of one representative from each of the Royal Houses.

The King or Queen is chosen from one of the twelve royal families and reigns over this world. Most decisions are made by the Royal Council, though the monarch has the right to veto them.

Dhampir

The Dhampirs are the guardians and protectors of Moroi. Dhampirs spend their entire existence guarding the Moroi against the Strigoi. They live by the principle, 'They come first', the Moroi. Once the Dhampirs graduate at the age of 18, they become Guardians. These Guardians are assigned to protect the Moroi from the Strigoi. There should be at least two Guardians for a Royal Moroi.

Unlike the Moroi, the Dhampirs can go under the sun. They have improved strength and muscles as a result of their vampire ancestry. Dhampirs don't have access to elements like Moroi do. But they are born with enhanced strength, increased agility, great endurance, and quicker reflexes. Dhampirs are also capable of night vision. Dhampirs, like Rosemarie Hathaway, get years of training to help them confront the Strigoi.

Dhampirs consume food just like humans but in larger percentages. Since they burn food far more quickly than humans do, they eat much more than humans or the Moroi. They are known to be smaller and curvier in their physique. The Moroi and a human were married to produce a half-vampire, half-human hybrid, the Dhampir. These days, when a Dhampir and a Moroi conceive a child, the child is a Dhampir.

Dhampirs heal more quickly than humans. Burns and other types of wounds can usually heal on their own over a short period. Their faster metabolism only enhances this skill. They can equal the might of the Strigoi thanks to their incredible physical prowess.

Whenever a Guardian or a Dhampir kills a Strigoi, they get the molnija mark tattooed on their necks.

Strigoi

The last creatures are the undead Strigoi. The Strigoi are a race of vampires that resemble zombies and are blood-hungry. They are raving, undead monsters that cannot go out in the sunlight. They have more developed base senses, including better night vision, and lack elemental magic. However, they are swift, decisive, and vicious.

The Strigoi are pale in complexion with blood-red eyes. They are immortal, have superhuman power and speed, can use compulsion, and have healing powers.  The Strigoi feed on humans, dhampirs, and specifically the Moroi since Moroi blood makes them the strongest

In Greek mythology, the Strigoi are troubled ghosts who can transform into animals and become invisible. They are said to have risen from the dead. In contrast to Moroi, who are born, the Strigoi are created by being bitten and ingesting the Strigoi's blood into humans, dhampirs, and Moroi. The only other way is if a Moroi deliberately kills someone while they are feeding.

The Strigoi have some weaknesses too. They cannot withstand sunlight at all. They are unable to enter holy sites or churches because they lack humanity. When a Moroi changes into Strigoi, they lose their magical abilities.

There are three ways to kill a Strigoi. They can either be burned, decapitated, or killed with a silver stake, straight through their hearts.

Conclusion

If you want to read or watch a new supernatural series, Vampire Academy is the one. Peacock's Vampire Academy features Dominion, which is different from the original VA. It represents the complex interactions between the Moroi, Dhampirs, and Strigoi. Do watch it if you love Vampire Academy or Vampire movies and TV shows in general.
