Ajit Doval is PM Modi's current and 5th security advisor (NSA), since May 2014. He is a former Indian intelligence and law enforcement agency officer and retired IPS officer of the Kerala cadre. He has been working for many years as an undercover spy and has done many remarkable deeds. He is called " The James Bond of India."

Early Life and Education

He was born on 20 January 1945, in Ghiri Banelsyun ( Pauri Garhwal). His father G.N. Doval was an Indian military officer. He did his schooling at Ajmer Military school in Rajasthan and his masters in Economics from Agra University, in 1966. After clearing the UPSC exam on the first attempt in 1967, he became an Indian Police officer and got home cadre in Kerala.

Doval was also awarded an honorary doctorate in science from Agra University, in 2017. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in Literature from Kumaun University. And the third doctorate in Philosophy from Amity University in 2018.

ASP Ajit Doval

Doval was posted as Assistant superintendent police (ASP) in Kottayam in 1968. On 28 December 1971, a riot broke out in Thalassery in the Kannur district of Kerala. Doval was a young officer in his third year of service. The government sent him to restore law and order.

After identifying and catching the rioters, he recovered looted items from them. He was applauded for this case. This information gets to Delhi and he is called there. Then he joined IB, and his life became an interesting experience in the history of Indian spying.

Intelligent Burrows

Laldenga had started a campaign in Mizoram, and led the MNF ( Mizo National Front ) to separate Mizoram from India. MNF had shed blood and people were scared. Doval went there for 5 years, as there were seven commanders of Laldenga.

Ajit managed to calm the atmosphere by convincing over six of seven commanders during Mizo's insurgency. Elections were also conducted and Laldenga became the first Chief Minister of Mizoram. The whole case of Mizoram was solved by Doval for which he won the 'Rashtrapati police medal'.

Terrorism in Punjab

In the 80s, terrorism was spreading in Punjab, as the Khalisthan supporters were raising their voices. On the other hand, Jarnail Singh Bhindra was camping for a self-governing Punjab.

Ajit Doval was the group head of IB when Operation Blake Thunder took place in the Golden Temple in 1988. The supporters of Khalistan had occupied the Golden Temple, and the police had no information about what was going on inside the temple. Then Doval becomes a rikshawala and roams around the temple to get information inside the temple. Then one day he goes inside the temple and people catch him.

Ajit Doval tells them that he has come from Pakistan. He assured those people that ' I am from Pakistan and have come to help in your operation against the Indian government,'. He constantly says this and convinces them. After gathering information, the army starts the operation. The temple was evacuated. The credit for this successful operation also went to Ajit Doval.

For the first time after the success of ' Black Thunder ', a police officer other than the army personnel was awarded the "Kirti Chakra". This was given by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Terrorism in Kashmir

Terror was increasing in the 90s. Pakistan instigated Kashmiri youth by giving them money to fight against India. They instigate the youth on the pretext of people, attack the army and police, and kill people. When your strength will increase, then we will come to rescue you. There, Doval made people understand and solved the problem with dialogue.

One of them was Kuka Parry, who was a Pakistani supporter. There were more than 250 terrorists in his group. Doval had brainwashed him by meeting with him several times. Then Kuka Parray, with his group, opened a front against Pakistan. Kuka's support and Ajit Doval's work opened the way for an election in Kashmir in 1996. Kuka Parray founded a political party "Jammu and Kashmir Awami Leagues".

Indian Airline IC-814 Hijacking

In 1999, IC184, an Indian airplane carrying 189 passengers and crew members, was hijacked in Kandahar. A team was formed to negotiate with the kidnappers, and Ajit was one of them. The kidnappers demanded 36 terrorists are released but only 3 were released after negotiations. Omar Sheikh (who later killed journalist Daniel Pearl), Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, and the key terrorist Masood Azhar.

Due to the release of these terrorists, the talks with hijackers, led by Doval will prove to be a low point in Indian security's history.

Plan for Daood Ibrahim

Some reports have it that Doval had got two of the shooters from Chota Rajan's shooters ready to kill Daood Ebrahim. When Daood was about to attend the wedding reception of his daughter Maharukh and Junaid, son of former cricketer Jawed Miyandad. But some police leaked the information and Maharashtra Police arrested both shooters in other cases. The plan to kill Daood Ibrahim in the Grand Hyatt Hotel did not succeed.

Ajit Doval became Director of IB in 2004 and retired in 2005. In his 37 years of service from 1968 to 2005, he was a spy for 30 years. After retirement, he remained involved in the conversation on national security in India. He has written editorials related to security issues in several leading newspapers. He has lectured on India's security challenges at government and private institutions in India and abroad. He became the founder of the Vivekananda international foundation in 2009. This foundation is a public policy think tank.

Some Key Operations by Doval

In 2014, Dobal was also involved in freeing the group of 46 nurses who were trapped by the ISI terrorist group in Iraq.

In 2016, after the Pakistani terrorist attack on Kashmir's Uri army base camp. A group of Indian Army conducted. The pre-planned surgical Strikes across the Line of Control killed terrorists in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. After the surgical strikes, India celebrated and some gave credit to Narendra Modi and the Indian Army. But very few know that Ajit Doval was one of the few who planned the strike strategy.

On 14 February 2019, in the attack, the terrorists rammed the SUV full of explosives with the police van. After the Pulwama attack, the airforce eliminated the terrorists by entering Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It happened under the leadership of Ajit Doval.

During this air attack, the MiG-21 of the Indian air force crashed. In which wing commander Abhinandan was present. Doval played an important role in putting pressure on Pakistan from abroad to release Abhinandan.
