Tunisia is a country in North Africa. It is composed of 24 Governments and its capital is Tunis. Tunisia’s culture is very diverse because of Ottoman and then french rule and also the populations of Jews and Christians. When you visit Tunisia, you will feel like you visit numerous countries at the same time because of the diversity of cultures and religions but we don’t forget to mention that the main religion of Tunisians is Islam.

What makes Tunisian food special? 


When we say Tunisian automatically we think about spicy food. For example, in Tunisia people added Harissa to every dish.  This is a popular Tunisian condiment. It's a homemade pepper paste and it is widely used in Tunisian cuisine. Also, we added mixed spices to make food more delicious, and also we always use tomato paste to prepare our food.


Couscous



Couscous is small steamed balls of crushed durum wheat semolina that are traditionally served with a stew made with vegetables and a protein (either chicken, lamb, fish, octopus, or Gadid). This is the most popular dish in Maghrab country in general, and each country has its way to make it; In Tunisia, some people prepare it with vegetables and some cook it with meat and some use both to prepare a very delicious couscous.


Brik





Briks are similar to Samosa,  a brik is made by wrapping delicate pastry dough around a variety of filling options, including potatoes, eggs, or tuna. The flavorful packets are then fried to golden perfection in grapeseed oil. These tasty, triangle-shaped finger foods are best-served piping hot with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.





Oja 







This is the easy est dish you can prepare, they also considered it as a fast-food; it is a mixture of tomato paste or fresh tomato with onion and green peppers they cook it together with some oil, and then they added different types of spices and finally, they add eggs. It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare it.




Lablebi





This meal is for cold days of winter, it is considered a portion of street food, it is composed of chickpeas cooked in broth with cumin, stale bread, tuna, poached egg, harissa, olive oil, and red peppers. When you eat it you need to mix it all and it is simply served in a traditional bowl.


Malawi 



This is the most popular Tunisian flatbread. Tunisians are known for their high consumption of bread they eat it with every meal. Mlawi is also considered a street food they eat it in a sandwich form with Harissa tuna and eggs. Try eating this bread with some olive oil and hunny in the morning


6 Salad Mechouia 




Salad Mechouia is the most popular salad in Tunisia. It is made with mashed grilled vegetables such as tomato, onion, peppers eggplant, and garlic seasoned with ground coriander and caraway seeds and it is served with tuna and olive oil.


Omek Houria 



This salad is served as a side dish, it is made with mashed carrots, garlic caraway seeds, harissa,  olive oil, and salt.  

Fricassee

It is a fried sandwich made with tuna, eggs, capers, harissa, and boiled potatoes.



Bambalouni 






 Bambalouni is the most popular snack in Tunisia. It is made with flour dough deep fried in hot oil. In general, they sell this snack on the beach in the summer.  


Makroudh 




This remember me of my grandmother's house, she always cooks it with love. Makroudh is made with a combination of semolina flour and flour filled with dates and fried in hot oil then soaked in sugar syrup.
