‘Feminism’ has been one of the most controversial and discussed terms since the middle of the 19th Century. There are many aspects of this phrase. It cannot be defined distinctively in a clear manner. Although the term is itself a very powerful one it suggests mostly protecting women's rights and standing for the equality of the sexes in the patriarchal society. According to Eastern Kentucky University-
“Feminism is an interdisciplinary approach to issues of equality and equity based on gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, and sexuality as understood through social theories and political activism. Historically, feminism has evolved from the critical examination of inequality between the sexes to a more nuanced focus on the social and performative constructions of gender and sexuality.”
Women from the ancient periods were being suppressed and deprived by the men in this society. They had no freedom or rights which we now are being considered human rights usually. They were restricted from different things like going outside without men in their families, doing higher studies or getting any jobs, or voting for the nation.
Year after year after lots of sacrifices and struggles women in some areas got equal rights to men in society. Now, we can see that women are more successful in terms of income or higher studies than men. Most importantly the American feminist movements brought changes since the early 20th century. Gradually, from then till the 21st century, we have witnessed so many feminist movements and changes in laws in different countries.
But nowadays the reputation of the term ‘feminism’ has started to decrease
because of few courses of action in social media. There are several open platforms in social media where anyone can upload any content whenever and whatever they want. Using these social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, etc. though some people are doing good for society some rogue feminists are hypocrites in disguise.
Many of the people who work for the development of women are getting famous on social media. And for the quick success in life and the temptation of quick fame, many people took the path of making content over ‘feminism’. Whether it is relevant or irrelevant does not bother them and they sometimes do not think about the consequences of the contents. These feminists pretend they take care of women and their rights but in reality they do not, they just want to get fame or make money somehow.
Pseudo Feminism
Feminists never hate or insult the other sexes of society and all they care about is the human rights that are necessary for a human being in this world. But the pseudo-feminists sometimes go to extremes and they do not respect the other sexes of society, which is quite unacceptable at some points. Feminism does not include judgment; it is only about freedom.
According to leaders, “ Pseudo-feminists have a deep desire to remedy all the injustices inflicted on women, often by lashing out and demeaning men. What they forget is the fundamental essence of the movement toward feminism: equality. Another form of pseudo-feminism is comfort feminism. We often don’t realize it, but pseudo-feminism is all around us, clandestinely hiding behind feminism.”
Feminists on Social Media Platforms
It is not that pseudo-feminism was not there before social media, it has been there since 1996 in several countries like America, England, China, India, etc. The trend has got increased because of social media.

We are all aware of which gender in a patriarchal culture needs to struggle more to survive, so everyone, including males, should acknowledge and be sensitive to the issues that women confront rather than try to solve them. But some women are disrespecting the males including the other sexes by making roasting videos or writing about things that can trigger severe damage to our relationships in society. It is not that only women are only joined in this kind of cult, many men are also responsible for pseudo-feminism. They contaminate society with their foul content and videos all over social media. They are now called ‘feminazis’.
On July 22, 2022, an article in the Times of India published some of the names of the pseudo-feminists who take advantage of being a woman or think that women deserve ‘more respect than men’ and they are Arundhati Roy, Mahua Moitra, Rana Ayyub, Swara Bhaskar, and Shashi Tharoor come from states of West Bengal and Kerala.
Times of India even published a report, formed by the Delhi Commission of Women in 2014 which says 53.2% of the rape cases reported were fake. In addition, the number is quickly approaching 90%. In Indian courts, there are more fictitious cases. These cases now contribute to a fragile economy and a highly unstable society since the damage is so great.
Women are taking advantage of feminism and they use it as a tool to falsely accuse men of any cases. For instance, after sharing the divisive movie poster showing a lady costumed as Goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette and brandishing an LGBTQ+ flag, Mahua Moitra made the decision to support Leena Manimekalai.
They are vile people taking the privilege of feminism and social media. Because of them, pseudo-feminism is spreading in our country and world like a disease of cancer.
We create them into so-called influencers by giving them popularity and the ability to decide what is right and bad, and some of Us are these ignorant people who follow them (inappropriate content creators, meme pages, gibberish reels, and Tik-Tok makers). We believe everything these social media handlers say.
On social media, stop following random users and pages. Quit letting other people dictate what should be wrong with your writing.
Remember to create a healthy and happy society we should use social media to spread love, and kindness and to connect, rather than accuse and disputing on each other. And yes feminism is needed but only that which advocates the rights of women fairly without disrespecting others.
