The Story of Indrajith: The Mightiest Warrior in Ramayana

We all know how strong Ravana is but all those strength, power, and knowledge came to his son too. The answer is No. because his son got strong knowledge and power than his father Ravana.

King of Clouds

In most stories, movies, or novels we people used to focus only on the hero or the villain but never noticed the strong character that is not popular. The man we gonna look for is such a warrior who should be celebrated by us.

Yes! In this article, we will look at the mightiest warrior who ever lived. Even at the time of his birth, his crying sound was like thunder so his father named him “Meganadhan”. Which means the king of the clouds. Do you wanna know how strong and how great a warrior he is?

Even the ocean would step back if it witnesses his rage, the volcanoes would blast by the heat of his anger even the dust could become a cyclone by the speed of his sword. The eldest son of the greatest king Ravana and the only warrior along with Parashuram ever to possess the 3 ultimate weapons of Trimurti.

The Man that Defeated Lord Indhra

The name his father Ravana gave him was Meghanadhan but the name he is well known for is “Indhrajith”.  During a war between Ravana and Indra Ravana was been attacked and fainted on the field. Thus his son Meghanadha enraged, engaged in a duel with Indhra. Indhra was defeated by Meghanadha and been tied to his chariot and taken to the earth.

Even Brahma was afraid of Meghanadha that he might kill Indra, who is the king of gods, and intervened. Instead, Meghanadha got a boom from Brahma to release Indhra. This is the reason Meghanadha got the name Indhrajidh. “The one who defeated Indra”.

The boon he asked from Brahma is immortality against everything but Brahma granted him invisibility in any battle but with a condition. That is he must perform a yagna before going to the battle.

The weapons of Indhrajith

Indhrajidh was considered to be the greatest and most powerful warrior of his era and the one and only warrior that possessed several celestial weapons including Trimurti under the guidance of his guru. He acquired all kinds of divine weapons of devas, asuras, and Trimurti.

The weapons could be classified in 2 ways.

One is the sastra which is the handheld weapon which is like a sword, lance, or mace and the other one is Asthra which is Miscle involved in performing hymns. And the ultimate weapon of Trimurti he possessed are Brahmasthra, Vaishnavasthra, and Pashupthasthra. Indhrajidh was said to be invulnerable in battle because of the yajna he performed before every battle.

Defeater of Everything

We all know hanuman, one of the strongest beings on earth to ever live, but even such a great warrior was defeated by Indhrajidh. Indhrajidh captured him and defeated him by using powerful celestial weapons including the Brahmaputra. He played an active role during the war between Rama and Ravana.

Ram and Lakshamana killed all brothers of Indhrajidh and also killed his paternal uncle Kumbakarna, his father Ravana was humiliated during the war. With no other option, Indhrajidh jumped into the field. he was fought for 3 days.

He even bounded Rama and Lakshmana from the nagpush. Garuda, the king of birds, freed Rama and Lakshmana from the nag-push by killing the serpent. Once Indhrajidh came to know about Rama and Lakshmana surviving again, he went to his native deity’s secret temple to perform the yagna that would make him immortal.

But Lakshamana and Vibishna took to face Indhrajidh because the place where Indhrajidh performed yagna he should have no weapon around him during the yagna. Even though he managed to escape from Lakshmana and Vibishna. And during the 3 days of fight that Indhrajidh did with the Vanara army. He slew more than millions of Vanara, a feat of terror even Ravana and Kumbakarna couldn’t achieve.

The Great Son

Even though he couldn’t achieve the goal of his father at the end of the war, he never left his father's side. He died during the war as a proud son of his father and the greatest warrior of that battle.

The Final Shot

He was said to be one of the most skilled warriors. He was said to be so skilled in archery which says he could even kill many numbers of opponents with one single arrow shot from his bow. I feel very happy to learn about such a hero and I wish I will share more about him in my further articles
