About the Book:

This story stars Alex Volkov, the absolute alpha male who can burn down the world for his beloved, and Ava Chen, who is the perfect sunshine, a free spirit trapped by nightmares. Written by Ana Huang this book is an absolute masterpiece with our favorite tropes #Brother’s best friend #GrumpyXSunshine #hates everyone but her #Touch her and I’ll kill you,# great friend group and revenge plan.

Alex is Ava’s brother’s grumpy best friend who is a devil blessed with the face of an angel who gets forced to look after his best friend’s sister, but as a twist starts to feel a crack, a melt of his icy façade. He is literally the definition of a "fictional character" who has an IQ of 160 and created software that made him a multi-millionaire. Ava is a Chinese-American who is a bubbly girl, she is a free-spirited bird with a lovely friendly group.

It’s a typical scenario of “I would not tolerate this man's conduct in real life, but I can't get enough of him in books” kind of romance. The story starts with ava getting stranded in the rain while Alex picks her up which marks the beginning of their apparent relationship. Alex gets the responsibility of his best friend’s sister as his best friend is moving out of the country, which forces furthermore interaction with Ava.

As the story goes Ava and her friends plan Operation Emotion on Alex to get a response out of him which results in the main characters catching feelings for each other. As the love between the characters starts developing, secrets from both of their pasts get revealed which results in the breaking of hearts and trust. This part of the story then takes us through a roller-coaster of suspense, thrill, and drama.

My Review:

Twisted Love is the first book of the Twisted series. It's a standalone book which has is fast-paced when it comes to describing romance. the first half was full of cute moments like operation emotion or Alex going to Ava’s college fest but the last half kinda went down with all the storyline which kind of disappointed me, especially with the groveling.

I would have preferred to read more scenes of them of how they are as a couple. As a result of the pace the sense of attraction was there but not the feeling that they were already at the "she's mine, he's mine" stage. In one chapter he's acting all nonchalant and indifferent and then suddenly in the next he “desires” her like she is essential to him.

Their banter was overall cute with some cute scenes but, it wasn’t enough for me to be convinced by his new macho man personality towards her. There wasn’t enough depth in the description of their love, I didn’t get the feeling that he cared enough for her to call her “his” because even when he saw her having night terrors in the beginning, he didn’t care for her that much and still acted like annoyed as if she was a nuisance to him.

I liked Ava’s character development throughout the book. She starts as a simple sunshine girl who have terrible nightmares related to her past to being a girl who fought all the trauma by herself and even undergoes a heartbreak which makes her more focused on her career.

As for Alex, I loved how he showed his soft side just for Ava and went from an Alpha dark character to a heartbroken lover who just follows after his beloved to win her back at any cost(but nevertheless I still would yearn for more of couple scenes).

My Rating of the book is 3.5/5. It’s good for a quick read.
