About the Author
American author Colleen Hoover, who was born on December 11th, 1979, specializes in romance as well as young adult fiction. That Ends with Us, her 2016 romantic book, is her most well-known work.
Before ever being picked by a publishing house, several of her works were released independently. By October 2022, Hoover had sold about 20 million volumes.
With Confess (2015), It Ends with Us (2016), and Without Merit (2017), she earned the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance three times in a row (2017). A seven-episode internet series based on Confess was created. Hoover and the family established the Bookworm Box in 2015; it is a store and monthly fee service that offers donated signed books from writers.
Plot
When Lowen Ashleigh accepts the job opportunity of a lifetime, she is a struggling author who is about to go bankrupt. Lowen has been hired by bestselling novelist Verity Crawford's husband, Jeremy Crawford, to finish the novels in a popular series that his sick wife can't finish.
To locate enough information to get her started, Lowen comes to the Crawford residence prepared to go through years' worth of Verity's notes and outlines. Verity's incomplete autobiography, which she never intended for anybody to read, is what Lowen does not anticipate finding in the disorganized office.
Page after page of horrifying confessions, including Verity's account of the night their family's circumstances, were irrevocably changed.
Knowing that the manuscript's contents will destroy the already-grieving father, Lowen resolves to withhold it from Jeremy.
Yet as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy become stronger, she realizes how much she would gain if Jeremy read his wife's letter. Although Jeremy is dedicated to his hurt wife, he would be unable to continue loving her if he learned the horrible reality.
Regarding the Book
Verity was first released in 2018 as an eBook, and it has just recently been made accessible in paperback in every country. Between then and now, it has become an internet sensation, elevating Colleen Hoover to the position of the top star on BookTok, a version of TikTok focused on books.
I'm aware of it but don't follow it. I've been reading Colleen Hoover for a very long time, ever since she first started solely self-publishing. Only a few weeks ago, I evaluated another of her recent releases.
She is incredibly talented and productive. I previously commented that I had never encountered a Colleen Hoover book that I hadn't finished in a single day, and here I am doing it once more: I began Verity in the morning and finished it by mid-afternoon. So. Readable.
Verity deviates from Colleen's typical style and genre, but this just serves to highlight her talent as a writer because she perfectly nailed it while writing in an entirely other area. This book completely engrossed me and was twisted, unpleasant, violent, spooky, menacing, seductive, and mentally mind-bending.
I was unable to put it down. Our protagonist discovers a story that is so horrifying, it defies belief, and so of course, while doing so, she's in a house in a remote location, falling for a grieving man...utter perfection. There are hints of Gillian Flynn mixed in with classics like Jane Eyre and Rebecca.
The final twist, which called into question everything that had gone before, only served to confirm my theory about Verity. In other words, I was able to see through the twist. Although I continue to believe she is completely insane, I'm willing to discuss this with you if you disagree.
Conclusion
When you reach the very last page of Verity, a compelling psychological thriller, you will be forced to reevaluate everything you have previously held to be true. Just enough hints are provided for us to reasonably question if Verity's gloomy manuscript is fiction or fact regarding what occurred in the book.
The story leaves us with an open ending that upends everything and makes us continue to think about these individuals even after it is over. The story divides people into two teams which are, team manuscript and team letter. So do give this book a read and decide wisely your team and what was true and false.
