Culpa Mía (My Fault), a film that has taken over the internet after its release, has taken the cinematic universe by storm. So join me on an exciting journey where we will discover why it is a gem you shouldn’t miss.
Mercedes Ron's literary treasure, My Fault, takes on a new form in its film adaptation as it immerses viewers into a realm of consequences, choices, and love.
Navigating the fine line between preserving the original work while presenting a fresh cinematic experience, the 2023 film version of 'My Fault' showcases its own distinct style. In this critique, we'll delve into the movie's evolution and examine how it brilliantly animates the written narrative.
Characters (Main)
Nick - Gabriel Guevara
Noah - Nicole Wallace
Ronnie - Fran Berenguer
Raffaela - Marta Hazas
William Leister - Ivan Sanchez
The Plot
In MY FAULT, Noah (Nicole Wallace) leaves her neighbourhood to move to the house of William Leister (Iván Sánchez), Rafaella's (Marta Hazas) new husband. She meets her new stepbrother, Nick (Gabriel Guevara), there.
Their personalities clash from the start, yet their desire leads them into an illegal relationship. Nick's illegal racing passion puts Noah in the sights of Nick's rivals; Noah's biological father raced before going to prison for domestic abuse and attempted murder.
The movie is focused on the romantic relationship between Nick and Noah throughout the movie. Noah was very unhappy about moving to a different place.
Although Noah and Nick have unresolved prior traumas, they nonetheless play into conventional stereotypes that we've seen in a variety of films in the past. To make matters worse, the rest of the cast is so forgettable and uninteresting that you'll wonder why you're even watching.
The Summary
The movie revolves around Nick and Noah's romance journey. Nick and Noah used to hate each other when first met and had some fights too but as time passes by they both get attracted towards each other.
Their relationship takes a turn when Noah’s mom unexpectedly brings Noah’s boyfriend from their hometown who was cheating on her with her best friend. Seeing him doesn’t make her feel good and we see how angry she is with him, the insulting scene at the pool is what will take your heart.
The story continues and Noah starts to get some threatening messages from someone unknown who is later found out to be her father who was in jail.
The movie revolves around how she got kidnapped by her father, who demands money. Noah’s mom says that he doesn’t want money but just wants to torture them and that’s why he is doing all of it.
Casting Choices and Performances
The movie was able to achieve the exact image of characters from the book into the movie, all the roles played were great. Their performance in the movie depicts the real written storyline. In addition, the chemistry between the main leads is the main dish of the movie.
Visual Aesthetics and Direction
The film is filled with car racing and drinking, Nick does illegal car racing and betting with his rival Ronnie and also loses his car to him. Even the ending of the movie has a running car scene.
The way the characters appear and some parts clearly show that high visual aesthetics are there, especially during car racing. It also perfectly shows the emotional intimacy of the characters in a very clear-cut way.
Themes Explored
The movie kept the original theme of the book, it dives into the theme of love, self-acceptance and the transformative power of relationships. It encouraged viewers to reflect on their own actions and the paths they will choose.
Final Thoughts
My fault movie scenes are going viral on social media especially because of the lead characters Nick and Noah, who were portrayed and played very well in the movie. In my personal view, it is actually because of them that the movie is so exciting.
