He then commits suicide which shows the pressure of studies put on students.
Cast Connections

She breaks up with Suhas, her boyfriend after getting scolded for wearing a cheap watch which belonged to her mother. Virus warns Farhan and Raju about being friends with Rancho by highlighting their poor financial conditions. He then shifts with Chatur, a highly competitive and arrogant Tamil student who is a book-worm. To teach Chatur a lesson, the trio makes funny modifications in his Teacher’s Day speech which amuses everyone.
Performances
The trio are successful in displaying the role of students. Kareena is seen as an independent medical-student, Omi’s debut is promising and Boman Irani displays the perfect strict college director.
India’s rude-crude education and colourless student life is brilliantly portrayed through the movie that only believes in making rats for a rat race and doesn’t promote innovation or creativity.
Overall appeal
- The film has the best comic scene of the year with the ‘balatkar’ speech.
- The songs come alive on the screen especially the Aal Izz Well song.
- The streets of Delhi and the beauty of Ladakh is portrayed in the film.
Friendship Goals
The night before their final exams, Raju’s father experiences a severe heart attack and Rancho takes him to hospital in a scooter because of emergency which saves his life. Rancho consistently explains to his friends why they lack behind in life- Farhan is a photography lover and Raju lacks self-confidence. Raju tries to commit suicide after Virus decides to expel him from college. He is saved by the support of his friends.
Life Saver Rancho

The Unexpected Twist
Ten years later, Chatur challenges them and reminds them of who is more successful. Chatur along with Farhan and Raju decides to meet Rancho. Upon reaching Shimla, they come across a different person Ranchhoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad. He is reluctant to reveal anything but upon the threat to flush his father’s ashes down a toilet, he reveals that Rancho was his gardener’s son who was very intelligent and gifted. He attended ICE on condition that he uses his son’s name and disappear later.
Final Thoughts
At the address in Ladakh, the group finds a thriving school. They meet Millimetre, now Rancho’s assistant who leads them to Rancho. Rancho still admits that he is in love with Pia and reveals himself to be a successful entrepreneur Phunsukh Wangdu with 400 patents whom Chatur’s company is courting. The film ends with a great lesson that academics and materialistic success is not everything.
