As we all know Bollywood is associated with Hindi cinemas or Bombay cinema as it appeared in the city of Bombay and later within due respect of time it became popular, even the movie started being released outside India and acquired global fame.

Here are the lists of the most romantic movies from the '90s edition which left their imprints over the hearts and minds of people. These ‘90s movies have created global actors, and Shahrukh is now being popularized as the “king of Bollywood”. These movies are not just romantic but also have some message for society as per the period in which they were released.

1. Aashiqui

This movie was directed by Mahesh Bhatt with a wonderful casting of Rahul Roy, Annu Agarwal, and Dipak Tijori as the leading actors. It was a movie of 1990 with great music and soundtrack, as rated fourth by “Planet Bollywood” on their “100 greatest Bollywood soundtracks”. This movie has been nominated 7 times in the 36th Filmfare Awards and won 4 awards.

The plot of the story is simple and complex at the same time. The main characters i.e. Rahul and Anu fall in love with each other. Rahul was professionally a singer who accidentally met Anu at the police station and both fell in love but before they united, they had their problems to deal with.

It is the greatest romantic movie of all time with 50 million box office sums. The director of the time said that most of the part of the movie is based on his own life story.

2. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

A Yash Raj film, which broke all the records of Indian Cinema was none other than DDLJ i.e. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. It was released in 1995, written and directed by Aditya Chopra. The main casting of the movie was Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, and Amreshpuri, and there were some other characters too.

The movie has great music and the plot is so romantic and modern in its age. It shows the love story of two individuals, Raj and Simran, who are originally Indians but live in London and accidentally meet on a trip.

There is a desi touch with modernity. The role performed by Amreshpuri as the father of the girl clearly shows the Indian touch even after living in London. The love towards the motherland and the family lineage has proven the theme to be modern and native at the same time.

Just like a typical Bollywood romance, the hero takes over the hand of his girl at the end of the by fighting the hurdles, especially the father, but the dialogue writing and the way it conveys makes this movie different from other romantic movies. It is one of the most hit movies of its time and it is the only movie that still runs in the theatre of Mumbai- Maratha Mandir and is considered the longest-running movie in theaters.

3. Mohabbatein

A love story, Hindi language musical romantic drama that was released in 2000, directed by Aditya Chopra. It is a Gurukul-based love story in which a teacher falls in love with the principal’s daughter, who is no longer alive and that makes the principal, Amitabh Bachchan, rude and rudimentary, strict and intolerant of love. Three students in Gurukul fell in love but were also afraid of their principal strict principles which must be followed. Shahrukh Khan, the teacher as well as the lover of Aishwarya- daughter of the Principal helps those kids to meet the love of their life and changes the mentality of the principal of Gurukul.

4. Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam

A girl named Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) is a rich Indian kid of a great musician. A young guy named Sameer (Salman Khan) comes to visit her father at his place to learn some Indian music and both fall in love in a while.

When her father gets to know about their affairs, he decides to marry her daughter to a young man named Vanraj (Ajay Devgan). Sameer went back to Italy and Nandini and Vanraj got married. Nandini had feelings for Sameer even after marrying Vanraj and that’s too Vanraj became aware of.

Vanraj decided to go to Italy and unite this couple but in the end, Nandini realized what true love is and went back to Vanraj. It is a wonderful movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with different turns and twists. It ruled the theatres when it was released probably in the year of 1999. The songs and the music are still liked by the people.

5. Devdas

Again a movie by the great director of Hindi cinema, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was released in 2002. It is a wonderful movie with a pure Bengali touch. The characters, the roles played by them, the songs, the dialogues, and the plot, everything is on point. It is one of the best romantic movies which blows the mind of the viewers with its twists and climax.

The two best friends who later become lovers were not united because of the false ruling of society. The movie shows the evil activity of the upper caste toward the lower caste and because of the caste margins both the lovers get apart but their love for each other never ends. It remained the same till the last breath.

Madhuri Dixit who acted as a prostitute in the movie was a pretty good character. She knew to respect women even if it was the beloved of his lover.

The purest form of love like the love of Paro for Devdas and vice versa, the love of Chandramukhi for Devdas, the amount of respect Chandramukhi had for Paro as she was the beloved of Devdas, has been depicted in the story. Everyone wanted to fulfill their desires but at some point, everyone lost. Devdas’s mother lost her husband and son because of her arrogance, Paro lost Devdas, Devdas lost his home and Paro, and many more examples are there.

This is one of the best romantic movies I have ever watched. I like the storyline, the plot, the design, everything. It is worth watching and I recommend all these movies to watch if anyone has missed it till now. These are the best movies that I have picked up after all the research and I am sure the viewers won’t get bored anyhow.
