A Warm Welcome - Pillars of History and Modernity
As a freshly enrolled student at IIT Ropar, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the grandeur of our new permanent campus. The moment you enter, you are met with four finely carved pillars, each telling a different story.
These pillars are a monument to the old Indus Valley Civilization, with molecular formations on top, reflecting the merging of modern science with a rich historical past.
It's like constructing a prestigious scientific institution based on a great civilization - a metaphor that sets the tone for our academic journey.
Sculptures Speaking Volumes
As I walked deeper into the campus, I noticed a modern sculpture depicting the aim and slogan of IIT Ropar. The sculpture encompasses the core of the institution in three helical turns - contribution to knowledge, contribution to society, and contribution to the nation.
The motto, neatly inscribed as धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्, sits at the tip, guiding us forward. Each turn of the spiral contains profound connotations, embodying IIT Ropar's very culture.
Admin Block - More Than Just Infrastructure
Moving ahead, the administrative block stands proudly, flanked by department buildings for Computer Science and Electrical on the left and Mechanical and Chemical Engineering on the right.
Being surrounded by the hub of knowledge and creativity inspires me as a student. The vegetation and overall pleasant ambience create a setting that stimulates learning.
The Hostels - More Than Just Accommodation
The shift from the transit campus to the permanent campus meant not just a location change, but also improved living conditions. The hostels, both for boys and girls, are more than just somewhere to stay.
They are vibrant environments that create friendship, shared experiences, and a spirit of learning. A home away from home is created by the seamless blending of pleasant living spaces with modern amenities.
Dining Hall Delights - Kanaka and Bhopal
The dining experience at IIT Ropar is more than just a way to satisfy hunger; it is also a social and cultural gathering place.
Kanaka and Bhopal, the dining halls, offer a fascinating combination of flavours with a pay-and-eat approach, allowing students to savour a range of cuisines without the trouble of handling cash.
Utility Block - Meeting Everyday Needs
The Utility Block is more than just a convenience; it's a nexus for addressing everyday necessities. From stationery shops to general retailers, this block guarantees that students have easy access to important things without having to leave the academic and residential areas.
Green Oasis - Sports Fields and Recreational Spaces
The beauty of IIT Ropar's permanent campus extends beyond its structures.
The well-kept sports areas, which include a basketball court and a football field, offer a welcome reprieve from academic endeavours. These recreational places not only promote physical well-being but also develop a sense of community among students.
Final Thoughts - A Promise Fulfilled
The new IIT Ropar permanent campus is more than just a collection of buildings and services; it's a promise fulfilled. The deliberate combination of history, symbolism, and functionality makes this campus a one-of-a-kind and exciting environment to learn.
As a freshman, I consider myself fortunate to be a member of an institution that promotes academic performance and instils a feeling of duty toward society and the nation.
The move from a transition campus to this spectacular permanent home has been astounding, and I am pleased to be a part of IIT Ropar's continued growth and success. Here's to a future filled with education, contributions, and great experiences!
