1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I'm Vinay Grover, widely recognized as DJ Project Vibe. My journey in the music industry began in 2010, driven by a deep-rooted passion for my culture and an extensive knowledge of Indian instruments. My unique style integrates traditional percussion instruments like the tabla and dhol into DJ sets, creating a distinctive and dynamic performance. I'm proud to say that I'm the only DJ in India who performs live percussion alongside a DJ set as a one-man army. This unique approach has made me a popular choice for grand weddings.

Over the past decade, DJ Project Vibe has focused on delivering authentic musical experiences, steering clear of unnecessary frills. My commitment to quality has earned me a reputation as a sought-after performer for luxury weddings, both domestically and internationally. In my thirteen-year career, I have performed at over 2,400 weddings, more than 100 clubs, and 50+ corporate events. My team and I combine the best of audio and visual elements to create memorable spectacles that leave a lasting impression on guests.

2. Is DJ'ing a mainstream and financially stable career in India yet?

Yes, DJ'ing has become a stable and mainstream career in India. However, it's crucial to approach it as a serious business. Those who treat it with the dedication and professionalism it demands find success and financial stability. Like any other profession, success in DJ'ing requires hard work, persistence, and a strategic approach to building your brand and client base.

3. Who is your favorite artist and why?

I have many favorite artists, which makes it difficult to single out just one. However, AR Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are at the top of my list. AR Rahman's music is a blend of classical and contemporary sounds, creating a rich and diverse auditory experience. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, on the other hand, are masters at fusing different genres and creating unforgettable soundtracks. Both have significantly influenced my musical journey and continue to inspire me with their innovation and versatility.

4. What are some of the common myths about your profession?

One of the most common myths about being a DJ is that we're always in bad surroundings and lead unhealthy lifestyles. People often assume that DJs are heavy drinkers, alcoholics, or even drug users. In reality, many of us are professionals who take our craft very seriously and maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle to ensure we can perform at our best.

5. How and from where can one gain formal training for being a DJ?

Today, aspiring DJs have numerous avenues for gaining formal training. You can start by watching tutorials on YouTube, which offer a wealth of information and practical advice. Additionally, there are many DJ institutes in cities across India that provide structured courses and hands-on training. These institutes can help you develop the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this field.

6. What are the kinds of opportunities you get after being a DJ?

After establishing yourself as a DJ, a wide array of opportunities opens up. You can be invited to perform at weddings as the main artist, play at clubs, and participate in music festivals. DJs are also in demand for corporate events, product launches, car launches, and the opening ceremonies of grand events. The diversity of opportunities ensures that there's always something new and exciting on the horizon.

7. Your message for people who want to make their passion their profession

My message to those who wish to turn their passion into their profession is simple: don't compare your journey to others. Start from scratch, grow slowly and sustainably, and always have patience. Every step of the journey is a learning experience, and in the end, all the hard work and dedication will be worth it. Stay true to your passion, and success will follow.
