Anchal Mehra - Inspiring Beauty and Style Across Continents (Instagram Influencer with 165k Followers)

I believe in the power of the evil eye, so I prefer to work on projects quietly and reveal them once they’re complete.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born and raised in New Delhi, where I completed all my schooling and college education. During my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, I discovered blogging and was immediately intrigued. After researching it online, I realized it was my passion and launched my blog, Style Virgo, in 2014, focusing on Fashion and Lifestyle.

Instagram was gaining popularity at that time, and I actively created content on that platform as well. Following my bachelor's degree in 2015, I pursued further education at Pearl Academy, specializing in Fashion Styling and Image Designing.

Within a year, I transitioned from part-time to full-time content creation. In 2022, I expanded my skill set by completing a Makeup & Hair course with Parul Garg. In 2023, I married and relocated to the US, where I have continued to evolve in my content creation journey.

2. If you could bring back any fashion trend from the past, which one would it be and why?

I love animal prints and would love to see them make a comeback. Regardless of current trends, I still wear them because they’re timeless to me.

3. What's an unconventional beauty hack you swear by that most people haven't heard of?

I have dry skin, so I remove my makeup with baby oil. It works wonders for me and does a better job than any makeup remover or balm available on the market.

4. Can you walk us through your creative process when planning a fashion or lifestyle shoot?

My creative process starts with matching accessories and footwear to my clothing. Then, I choose a background that complements the outfit and the mood it conveys.

For edgy outfits, I prefer street locations. Glamorous looks are best shot against white backdrops with high ceilings for a grand feel. Night looks work well in restaurants or bars that match the outfit's vibe.

5. Can you share a funny or embarrassing fashion mishap you've experienced and how you handled it?

Fortunately, nothing has happened publicly. However, many Indian girls can relate to the struggle with zippers on traditional attire. Despite improvements, they remain a challenge I still dread.

6. How do you blend elements of New York and New Delhi fashion into your unique style?

I stay true to my roots, and my style hasn't drastically changed since moving to New York. However, I've always loved wearing big hats and I find myself incorporating them more into my wardrobe here than I did in New Delhi. Overall, my style remains classic and fun, always relatable and reflective of both cities.

7. How has your beauty routine evolved since you started your career in 2014?

A lot has changed. I never used sunscreen, but now it’s a staple in my routine. I also started using retinol based on my dermatologist's recommendation. My makeup routine has improved too—I used to have overly bright under-eyes with too much baking, but not anymore.

8. What’s one talent or hobby you have that your followers might be surprised to learn about?

Nothing is hidden from my audience. They mostly know everything about me.

9. What’s a common misconception about being a digital creator in the fashion and beauty industry?

A common misconception is that we don’t spend our own money and that everything we do is paid for by brands or part of a collaboration. While this may be true for some creators, it’s not the case for everyone. I personally enjoy spending my own money on things and experiences I want.

10. How do you maintain a personal connection with your followers despite having a large audience?

I make sure to reply to all comments and DMs, offering help with any queries or styling advice they need.

11. What’s a long-term goal or project you’re excited about that you haven't shared with your audience yet?

I believe in the power of the evil eye, so I prefer to work on projects quietly and reveal them once they’re complete. There are several exciting things in the works, and I hope they succeed.
