Akash Barnabas - A Journey of Passion, Persistence, and Musical Growth (Singer & Songwriter)

"Music isn't just about sound—it's about creating connections, expressing emotions, and making a lasting impact through authenticity and passion."

1. Could you share the story of how you got started in music? What sparked your passion for singing and songwriting?

It all started off from college competitions. I started exploring myself since then.
Music has always been the soul of my life. I grew up surrounded by it, whether it was listening to records my parents played or singing in the choir.

But what really sparked my passion was the feeling that music gave me—a way to express emotions I couldn’t always articulate.

2. What’s your approach to songwriting? Do you have a particular method or setting that inspires you most?

Songwriting to me is a combination of feeling the emotions and spontaneity. Sometimes it begins with an unexpected melody, and other times with a line or phrase that I want to develop due to that current feel.

I enjoy writing in quiet, meditative locations where I can explore deeper feelings. But I often get inspiration from chaotic situations—life itself is a tremendous source.

3. Who are some of the artists or genres that have influenced your sound?

Definitely it has to be Charlie Puth, Arijit Singh, Sonu Nigam and Atif Aslam for me.

4. What themes do you often explore in your lyrics? Is there a message you hope to convey through your music?

My lyrics frequently explore themes of finding oneself, vulnerability, and connection. I am fascinated with the complexities of human emotions, particularly how we handle love, grief, and growth.

At its core, I want my music to remind individuals that they are not alone in how they feel. I hope that my music inspire reflection and healing.

5. Has there been a song or project that was particularly challenging? How did you navigate through it?

I think every project is challenging. Every project requires 101 percent of your blood and sweat and of course sleepless nights. But believe me, if you have trust in what you do, you'll find the right step every time.

6. How has your music evolved over time? Are there new styles or themes you’re excited to explore?

My music has undoubtedly changed over time. When I first started, my songs were more raw and acoustic, but as I grew, I added more elements and experimented with other genres.

Right now, I'm quite interested in combining organic instruments with digital production approaches. Lyrically, I'm also diving into a wider space of emotions.

7. How do you stay connected with your audience, both online and offline?

I keep connected to my audience by being real and sharing not only my music but also aspects of my life. I communicate with audiences on social media, live streaming, and stories.

Offline, I enjoy intimate performances in which I can truly sense the enthusiasm of the audience. It's all about making a true connection.

8. What are some key lessons you’ve learned about the music industry that aspiring artists should know?

One important lesson I've learned is to be true to your goal. The industry may be intimidating, with so many people advising you what to do. But, ultimately, your sincerity is your most valuable asset.

Patience and tenacity are also essential—it's a long game that requires you to keep moving forward even when things appear to be stagnant.

9. Are there any upcoming releases or collaborations that you’re excited about?

I’ve got some exciting things in the works. A multiple city shows & a collaborative work(still working on).

10. What has being a musician taught you about yourself?

Being a musician has taught me to embrace vulnerability. There's something powerful about expressing your emotions to the world. It's also taught me the value of resilience—there are ups and downs on this journey, and you must maintain belief in your craft.

11. If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

The list is too long. I wish I could take the stage beside KK Sir. Atif Aslam is also at the top of my list. In the realm of stars outside our country, my top picks include Charlie Puth, Ed Sheeran, and Anne Marie.
I find their energy too contagious.
