Bhavisha Jaisinghani - Advocate for Sindhi Cuisine & Culture (Food Blogger, 52k Followers)

"Showcase your talent and embrace your heritage. Sitting idle won't get you anywhere, but sharing your passion can make all the difference."

1. Can you tell us about your journey and how you started in the culinary field?

I began my journey in 2012, assisting my husband with his catering business while also conducting cooking and baking classes for students from abroad. My sweets, like Sindhi Khorak, Sindhi Majoon, and Sindhi Lola, have reached countries including China, Australia, Jamaica, and the Netherlands. Although I had the opportunity to learn from master chefs, I couldn’t attend due to my husband’s hospitalization.

After he passed away in 2020, I went through a period of deep depression but decided to carry on his business. During the COVID lockdown, I taught baking to over 50 girls, which was a rewarding experience. I also helped my 16-year-old daughter become a professional makeup artist, and now we support each other in managing our household. In 2023, despite challenges like my back fractures, my children encouraged me to share my passion online, which led me to start creating cooking videos.

2. What inspired you to focus on Sindhi cuisine and culture in your content?

When I started uploading videos, the positive responses motivated me to concentrate on our Sindhi language and culture, which I felt was being overlooked. My daughter and I began creating content centered around Sindhi food, pairing recipes with Sindhi songs and cultural videos. This resonated with people, and within a year, my page grew to 52,000 followers, reaching audiences worldwide. My goal is to ensure that the new generation learns about our Sindhi heritage, helping to keep our culture alive.

3. How have you dealt with negative feedback on social media?

I received negative comments questioning why I chose to promote Sindhi food and culture, which initially upset me. My children advised me to ignore the negativity, and I followed their advice. Today, the results speak for themselves, as my Instagram continues to grow and reach more people.

4. What do you think the future holds for Sindhi cuisine?

The future of Sindhi cuisine looks promising, especially with the rise of digital media and influencer culture. Increased visibility is allowing traditional dishes to reach a wider audience, and influencers are bringing innovative twists that appeal to younger generations. Social media plays a crucial role in preserving recipes and engaging communities, fostering a deeper appreciation for our food. I foresee a blend of tradition and modernity that keeps Sindhi cuisine vibrant and relevant.

5. What message do you have for the younger generation about Sindhi culture?

The new generation often lacks awareness about Sindhi food and culture, and I encourage everyone to embrace and promote our heritage. Our dishes are renowned globally, and it's vital to share this legacy with others. Let’s celebrate and spread the richness of Sindhi culture together.

6. If you could host a dinner party for anyone, who would it be and why?

If I could host a dinner party, I would invite chefs Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna, and Kunal Kapoor. I would serve them Sindhi food and discuss our culture with them, as I believe they could help amplify our culinary heritage.

7. What message would you like to share with those on a similar journey?

My experience has been wonderful, and I want to tell everyone—both men and women—to showcase their talent. Sitting idle won't get you anywhere. I'm grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey, and I hope for your continued support as I move forward.
