"Authenticity will always shine through, and that’s what will help you stand out."
My love for acting started in college, where I was part of the theater group. Theatre really fueled my passion. It was this organic, unfiltered space where I could lose myself in different characters and stories. I think it’s that freedom to express and embody someone else’s experiences that really drew me in. And honestly, once I tasted that thrill, I couldn’t go back!
Q. Your roles are incredibly varied—from comedic sketches to intense dramas. What attracts you to such diverse projects?
Honestly, I’m just a very curious person, and I like to challenge myself. Different roles allow me to explore and learn so much. Comedy is something I love because there’s such an art to making people laugh, and it’s not as easy as it looks. On the other hand, serious roles allow me to go deeper emotionally and tap into aspects of my personality I didn’t even know existed. I think that’s the beauty of acting—it’s like a constant journey of self-discovery.
Q. Your journey in Bollywood has been non-traditional, especially for someone without industry connections. What were some challenges you faced breaking into the industry?
Oh, it wasn’t easy at all! There were a lot of auditions, rejections, and times I doubted myself. Without industry connections, you’re starting from scratch, and you have to fight for each opportunity. You learn to be resilient and persistent. It’s also a challenge to stay authentic because, in this industry, it’s easy to get boxed into stereotypes. But I think every rejection has only made me stronger and even more committed to pursuing projects that resonate with me.
Q. You've been vocal about issues in the industry, like body image pressures and the need for more authentic representation. How do you navigate this while staying true to yourself?
It's a struggle at times, but I believe that as actors, we have a responsibility to advocate for what we believe in. I’ve seen a lot of pressure on people, especially young women, to look or act a certain way. For me, I think it’s about holding on to my own values and surrounding myself with people who uplift me. I’m grateful that I have friends and family who ground me, and I try to reflect that authenticity in my work
Q. What’s a role or project that you’re especially proud of?
One project I hold very close to my heart is Gully Boy, where I played Albina. The entire experience was unforgettable. It was amazing to work with such a talented cast and crew, and playing Albina gave me an opportunity to tap into a different side of myself. The role was gritty and real, and I think that resonated with the audience. I also loved working with the team on Girls Hostel. That show was a blast to shoot, and the message it carried about friendship and resilience really resonated with me.
Q. Bollywood is changing, with more stories from different perspectives being told. What changes do you hope to see?
I think it’s an exciting time because audiences are craving more diverse, authentic stories, and that’s pushing the industry to evolve. I’d love to see more complex roles for women where they aren’t just love interests or side characters. Stories that show women in all their shades, flaws, and strengths. And I think more diversity in voices—directors, writers, producers—will only make Indian cinema richer.
Q. How do you prepare for your roles? Is there a method you follow?
I don’t have a set method because every role demands something different. But I spend a lot of time understanding the character’s background, motivations, and relationships. I also draw inspiration from real people—observing them, noticing their quirks, and trying to bring those nuances to my characters. I think that adds layers to the role and makes it feel genuine. Also, I rely a lot on rehearsals to feel comfortable in a character’s skin before the cameras roll.
Q. Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring actors who want to break into the industry?
I’d say two things—patience and persistence. It’s a tough industry, and it can take years to get that one breakthrough role. But every audition, every rejection, is part of the journey. It’s also important to keep learning. Take workshops, watch good cinema, and focus on honing your craft. And don’t lose sight of who you are. Authenticity will always shine through, and that’s what will help you stand out.
Q. Thank you so much, Srishti! It’s been a pleasure hearing about your journey. We’re excited to see what’s next for you!
Thank you! It’s been wonderful sharing my story with you. I hope it inspires someone out there to keep going, no matter how tough things get. And I’m just as excited for what’s next!
