Surabhi Tiwari - Insights About Actress From Love, Scandal And Doctors (Indian Actress, 348k Followers)

"Be authentic. Take care of what you have, and keep pushing forward until you succeed"

1. Can you share how your journey in acting and beyond began?

I was working as a software developer at Infosys, but I wasn't enjoying it at all. I felt drained every day, and going to work became the hardest thing to do. As Salman Khan said in Kick, I wasn’t getting that "kick" from my job. So, one fine day, I decided to start exploring opportunities in Mumbai. My first audition was for a Tata Sky commercial, and I got selected. That gave me the confidence to quit my job and move to Mumbai to pursue acting.

2. You've lived in many cities across India. How have these experiences influenced your career?

Living in different cities has shaped my mindset significantly. It exposes you to diverse cultures, people, and ways of thinking. I met so many people, especially those in their 40s or 50s, who weren’t doing what they loved and were unhappy in life. I realized I couldn’t let that happen to me. I didn’t want to be in a job or life situation that drained me, and I knew I had to make a change before it was too late.

3. Transitioning from a software developer to an actress is quite a leap. What motivated this change?

It was the thought of a monotonous 9-to-5 job. I realized that’s exactly what I didn’t want in my life. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I knew what I didn’t want. I explored several career paths, and eventually, I ended up in Mumbai. That was the turning point.

4. With numerous TV shows and web series under your belt, which role has been the most challenging for you?

I played a negative character in Jai Santoshi Maa on &TV, and it was definitely a challenge. I had to give intense, scary expressions, and my makeup was completely different from anything I’d done before. Despite my best efforts to look like a cunning demon, I ended up looking cute instead! After several retakes, the director finally got the shot, and we all laughed about how I didn’t look menacing at all, despite all the makeup.

5. How do you manage to balance acting with your brand collaborations?

Initially, I was focused on acting, but during the lockdown, I started exploring brand collaborations. I quickly realized that this gave me more time with my family, friends, and loved ones, and also allowed me to maintain my mental peace. Gradually, my focus shifted towards brand collaborations, and I've almost stepped away from acting for now. My last project was a Tamil film in 2023, which is yet to release.

6. What advice would you give to aspiring actors and influencers trying to make their mark?

Be authentic. Take care of what you have, and keep pushing forward until you succeed. It’s not going to happen overnight, and that’s okay. Success takes time, so don't let anyone make you feel otherwise. Keep trying, stay real, and trust the process.

7. If you could collaborate with any actor or brand in the future, who would it be and why?

I would love to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan. He’s my favorite actor, and I’ve always admired his work. There was one time I was very close to working with him on an HSBC campaign, where I was supposed to play his wife, but last-minute changes led to the project being dropped. I'm hopeful that one day, I’ll get the chance to work with him.
