Ar. Gurnoor Singh - Every Heritage Site Has a Story That Deserves to Be Shared (Content Creator, 151k Followers)

"It’s about more than just visiting places—it’s about connecting people to history, inspiring them to see beauty in heritage, and celebrating individuality through my own colorful expressions."

Q. What inspired you to start your journey into fashion and styling, and how has it evolved over time?

It all started with a simple curiosity in my own city. I would visit local heritage spots, fascinated by their charm and timeless beauty, capturing myself against the intricate designs and grand backdrops. With every visit, I found myself wondering about the stories behind these places—who built them, why they were created, and what history they held.

This curiosity sparked a deeper passion. The more I explored, the more I wanted to research and uncover the narratives of these monuments. Alongside this journey, my love for styling emerged when I began tying turbans of different vibrant colors. It became my signature, a way to blend history with individuality, and eventually led to the name @the_colorful_singh

Today, my journey combines my love for travel, storytelling, and style. It’s about more than just visiting places—it’s about connecting people to history, inspiring them to see beauty in heritage, and celebrating individuality through my own colorful expressions.

Q. Which is your favorite heritage site in India, and what makes it special to you?

Honestly, I don’t want to sound biased by picking just one favorite heritage spot in India. For me, every new place I visit feels like a favorite at that moment. There’s something magical about stepping into a location for the first time, learning its story, and imagining what life must have been like when it was built.

Every structure has its own charm—be it the intricate carvings, the grandeur of its architecture, or the whispers of history in its walls. It’s like each place takes me on a journey back in time, letting me connect with the era it belongs to. So, instead of having one favorite, I let every visit turn into a unique memory, and that’s what makes this journey so special for me.

Q. How do you decide which places to explore and feature on your Instagram?

So here’s the fun part. Back when I used to work a regular job and had weekends off, I made it a ritual to explore something new every weekend. Whether it was a heritage site with fascinating history or a food spot known for its authenticity and legacy, I loved discovering these hidden gems.

Over time, this habit inspired me to share these places with a larger audience. What you see on my Instagram today are often places I’ve already visited 4 to 5 times before. I revisit them to capture their essence better, understand their stories deeply, and showcase them in a way that truly connects with people. It’s this mix of curiosity, passion, and authenticity that drives my content.

Q. What’s the most surprising or unique piece of art or architecture you’ve discovered during your travels?

I’ve come across so many incredible historical places during my travels, but a few of my absolute favorites are Begumpur Masjid, Moth Ki Masjid, Zafar Mahal, and Khooni Darwaza. What makes these spots so special is that they’re tucked away in plain sight, often overlooked despite their rich history and stunning architecture.

Delhi itself has 1000+ monuments, which means there’s always something new to discover, even for someone like me who’s been exploring for years. Each visit feels like uncovering a hidden gem, capturing places that most people don’t even know exist. That’s the beauty of Delhi and India—it keeps surprising you with stories waiting to be told.

Q. How do you balance your love for travel, photography, and your work as an architect?

Balancing my love for travel, photography, and my work as an architect is definitely not easy. Creating content while designing buildings demands a lot of time and energy, and it can be overwhelming at times. But by the grace of God, I’m fortunate to have a strong support system. My brother, who is an interior designer, helps me run our firm, Archtca Design, which ensures that things stay on track.

It’s also all about teamwork. Whether it’s the videos I create or the buildings we design, none of this would be possible without the incredible efforts of our team. Everyone plays a vital role in making sure both the creative and professional sides are balanced seamlessly.

Of course, hard work and consistency are key. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas for content or crafting architectural designs, it’s the dedication and shared vision that make it all happen.

Q. What’s the most rewarding part of sharing your journey with 150,000 followers?

The most rewarding part of sharing my journey with 150,000 amazing individuals is the peace of mind and satisfaction it brings. Traveling, creating, and sharing stories feels incredibly fulfilling, especially knowing that people gain knowledge and inspiration from it.

But let me make one thing clear—they aren’t just followers; they’re a community. A beautiful, supportive community that I’ve been fortunate enough to build over time. I’m truly grateful for how they stay connected, appreciate my work, and love the way I share my experiences.

To all of them, I’d simply say, “Love you Sohneyos!” You all make this journey so much more meaningful.

Q. If you could redesign or restore one heritage site in India, which one would it be and why?

If I had the power, it wouldn’t be just one heritage site I’d focus on—it would be every site that’s not being preserved properly in India. Our country is home to so many beautiful monuments, but many are slowly fading away due to neglect. Every site deserves to be restored and protected for future generations.

But if you really force me to choose one, I’d say it could be any site, anywhere. The opportunity to restore and preserve any monument is rare, and I’d embrace the chance to contribute to any place that needs it. Whether big or small, every heritage site has a story that deserves to be shared, and I’d love to be a part of ensuring that people can visit these places and experience their history again.

Bio:

I’m just an architect who loves to travel around the world, capturing the essence and stories of the places I visit. I’m fascinated by the architecture created by human hands—structures that, in my eyes, are ultimately designed by God. Every journey allows me to witness and understand the beauty of these creations, and it inspires me deeply in my own work.

As much as I’m passionate about design, travel is a vital part of who I am. Without travel, I wouldn’t be the architect I am today, and without architecture, I wouldn’t experience the world the way I do. The two are intertwined, shaping my perspective and my journey every day.
