"Mumbai, in turn, loved me back—so much that words can’t describe it. In Mumbai, if you know your craft, they treat you like a queen."
1. Can you tell us how your acting journey began?
I started as a dancer, performing as a lead from the age of 3.5. During one of my performances, a senior actress from Kolkata, Chikki Chowdhury, noticed my expressions and invited me to audition for a project at the Technician Studio. Although the audition went well, I wasn’t ready to pursue acting then. Years later, I joined an acting school and started visiting production houses daily with my portfolio. Eventually, I got my break in Arakhshaniya by Ravi Ojha Productions, thanks to director Swarnendu Samaddar, who believed in me.
2. How have Kolkata and Mumbai shaped you as a person?
Kolkata gave me name and fame, but the opportunities were limited. Taking a risk, I moved to Mumbai, where I faced challenges and even encountered frauds. However, once I started working, I understood the industry and earned immense respect. Mumbai made me a better person and a focused actress, motivating me to keep pushing forward.
3. What does being a dreamer and believer mean to you?
It means setting realistic goals and believing in your ability to achieve them. Dreaming is important, but turning those dreams into reality requires belief in oneself.
4. How do you stay strong and motivated in a tough industry?
This is the path I chose, fully aware of its challenges. On tough days, I remind myself that better days are ahead. I focus on self-improvement and never consider turning back.
5. What’s a common myth about actors you’d like to debunk?
There’s a myth that actors must compromise to get projects. This isn’t true. Talent and hard work lead to opportunities. Shortcuts might exist, but perseverance always pays off.
6. Who has inspired you the most in your journey?
My mother has been my greatest inspiration. She’s incredibly strong, and after my father’s passing in 2024, my responsibilities increased. My determination to succeed is as much for her as for myself.
7. What advice would you give to someone chasing their dreams?
Never give up and always believe in yourself. Self-belief is essential because if you don’t have it, no one else will.
8. If you could play a biopic, whose story would you tell?
I’d love to portray Jhansi ki Rani. She was a fighter, and I relate to her spirit. I’ve faced many challenges in life, and like her, I see myself as a survivor and warrior who never gives up.
