Urvashi Apsara -The Belly Dancer And Choreographer Behind Iconic Moves In Pushpa 2 (Dancer, Choreographer, And Actor With 324K Followers)

"From imagining herself dancing on music channels as a child to creating iconic moves for Pushpa: The Rule, Urvashi Apsara's story is a testament to passion, resilience, and never giving up on dreams."

1. How would you describe your journey as a dancer, choreographer, and actor?

My journey has been a mix of excitement and challenges. It all began with small college competitions, then progressed to working as an assistant choreographer, occasionally stepping in as the main choreographer, and now fully transitioning into acting.

As an assistant choreographer, I always felt a deep urge to perform as an artist. When given the chance to do artist marking during rehearsals, I poured my heart and soul into those moments, living them to the fullest. The satisfaction I felt watching myself on the showgun was indescribable, even though I had to step aside when the actual artist arrived. But I always knew that one day, I’d make it to the big screen.

Rejections in both acting and dancing have been a constant, and I’ve even been scammed by fake casting agents. Despite these struggles, quitting has never been an option for me. Monetary challenges still exist for many artists, but my passion keeps me going. Since childhood, I’ve been mesmerized by music and dance. Growing up, I would watch channels like E24 and B4U, imagining myself as one of those artists dancing on screen. That dream is what drives me every day.

2. What inspires your choreography for high-profile projects like Pushpa 2? How do you ensure each performance stands out?

The credit for the choreography of Pushpa 2 goes to Master Ganesh Acharya. However, we do create specialized choreography chunks when required. For instance, there’s a unique step where Sreeleela ma’am is on the floor hitting her waist. Bunny Sir (Allu Arjun) wanted something extraordinary since this was Pushpa 2.0. As I specialize in belly dancing, I combined a waist and leg movement, which turned out beautifully. Bunny Sir said, “Very nice, dear... Perfect!” and immediately asked me to teach it to Sreeleela ma’am.

3. Any memorable moments working on songs like Oo Antava or Kissik?

Practicing with the Star Icon himself, Allu Arjun Sir, is a memory I’ll cherish forever. His vibrant energy and magnetic aura are truly inspiring.

4. How do you balance the authenticity of belly dancing with modern cinema?

Belly dancing is a unique art form loved by both men and women. Its elegance and extraordinary appeal make it a perfect fit for modern cinema, which often needs a classic touch. For me, blending belly dancing with contemporary styles feels like adding the ‘cherry on the cake.’

5. What excites you most about acting in films like Kitty Party and 31st December?

The exciting part about Kitty Party is its rural village setting. I play a very different character—a bold yet beautiful rural girl who dreams big despite her struggles with poverty. She is fearless and takes risks to enjoy life.

On the other hand, 31st December is a college film, which allowed me to relive the fun and excitement of college life. Both roles are poles apart, making them equally thrilling for me.

6. What trends do you notice in how dance is evolving in Indian cinema?

Dance in Indian cinema has become more experimental and inclusive, incorporating global styles while staying rooted in our traditional forms. The audience now craves choreography that is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant, and filmmakers are embracing that demand by showcasing diverse techniques and storytelling through dance.

7. What’s next for you—any exciting projects or goals?

My ultimate goal is to make a mark as an actress while continuing to showcase my dancing skills. (On a lighter note, I’d love to replace Nora Fatehi someday!) I’ve always wanted to be on screen, facing the camera and expressing my talent. Moving forward, I’m excited to work on roles that challenge me and perform in dance numbers that truly highlight my expertise.

8. Which global celebrity do you dream of acting with in the future?

Of course, Allu Arjun Sir! Working with him is my dream.
